Has Anyone Heard This on a 3.4?

I know its really overkill for my car but I was wondering if anyone has heard a soundclip of this on a 3.4? I think the bullets would help keep it a lower pitch

Never heard it on V6 but should sound like a catback with a bullet mufflier.
But it will be more work to get it to work on a V6 because it's made to hook up to longtube headers on the V8.

Not worth it on a V6.

why not? Every engine works on the same premiss would it add much? not really Is that system over priced? you better believe it. There are guys now doing single exhaust on cars that are making as much or more power than duals (single you can do a bigger pipe and still have clearance)Why buy a pre made kit when a custom one could be made for a lot less?

My biggest thing I with it are that true duals are way over rated. People seem to think if you have true duals you'll be making like 20hp over a catback when a good catback will make the same hp if not more. My side exhaust will be true duals but that has nothing to do with the reason I'm building it.

I dont care for them to much. LS1Tech.com has there end of the month gtg for us texas members here in DFW at a hooters here and everytime I hear a badass V8 come in there always cat-backs not true duals.

NCamaro94 09-05-2005 09:54 PM

heres another question, does the I pipe add more power from an aftermarket cat-back system than the stock pipe?

archemedes 09-05-2005 10:25 PM

it would just change the sound, the system is only as good as the worst restriction

p.s. 3" true dual is overkill on a v6 bigtime. most think 3" single is but i disagree but lets not get that arguement going again.

lol. whatever you say man ;) (i love it when people use this copout)

please use numbers or experience to backup your claims like this. personally i think 3" is the max you should go on a 3.4L v6. mine sounds great and i've outraced Grant (MeenZ28) in my "3400" v6 with my 3" exhaust and cutout -- which, by your standards, is overkill.

just my thots on the matter.

edit: the caveat to this -- is that your engine has to have mods to need this much flow. 3" exhaust with headers and a portjob and cam on the 3.4 is perfectly fine. a 3" exhaust on a stock 3.4 would probably move the powerband up a bit, so takeoffs would be a little more sluggish.

to answer your question -- I have never personally heard a "true dual" setup on a 3.4L. HOWEVER, I know someone that has. most of you wont recognize him, some might -- his name is James Montigny. He had the first ever NRT (Norris Racing Tech / Nu-Tek Motorsports) 3500 engine. The bored/ported/polished/performance parted everything in his engine and in the end (since he wouldnt change his fuel injectors to match his hp output) he was making something like 180 rwhp.

he tried true duals (2.5") on his 3.4 engine, and found that it sounded like *** (his own words to me) and that the single 3" he had did more for him so he ended up switching back to the single 3".

I personally wouldnt do true duals unless I did some kind of custom exhaust system on my car, and then I would have to find a way to fabricate some kind of spiffy setup that would include another cat too (just cause i dont have a cat right now doesnt mean i want to leave it that way...trust me catalytic converters help everyone...get a high-flow, keep your performance and help your lungs.)

anyway, hope this helps.
good luck.

I have seen it on gp's (the 3800 engines) that slow down with 3 in

different engine, different setup.

3.4 != 3.8

they have different characteristics. the 3.4 is essentially (sp) a "race motor" due to the fact that GM has taken the 2.8L and bored the @#$ outta it, and then stroked it. and then put what they consider "a nice cam" into it. (they were trying to push the 2.8 to keep it in the camaro before they came out with the 3800 series II. the only reason they tossed the 3.4 is that the 3.8 made more hp easier under current CA smog regulations).

anyway. you cant compare what kind of hp/tq gains you get on a 3.8 v6 with what you get on a 3.4 v6. so ill revise my statement.

the 3.4 + 3" = really nice. i cant say the same for the 3.8 apparently since so many people say that it dies when you add a 3" exhaust system to it.

sounds to me like the 3.8 is a bit inferior...

the 3.8 is considered by most people to be the best engine gm produces, it is considered the most reliable and makes very good power (the ls series comes in second with the engineers) I had 3 in on a 3.1 (the engine the 3400 is really based off which was based off the 2.8 that was klled of in the late 80's) and it lost a bit of power the gtp stays the same (it is 3.8, but is s/c'd) heck even my 350 didn't gain much from a 3in over a 2.5 (about a tenth in the quarter) a good design is more important than size (a common problem with teh bigger pipes is more turns more turns= less flow)

black34v6 09-27-2005 10:51 AM

i stand by my statement above, i wont argue the point because i dont think theres anything to argue. i believe what i said. if you dont agree with it...well.. :ne_nau:
