header question

how hard is it to install headers on a v6 1998 im thinking about doing it this summer for a project. Pacesetters good?

SOMBirdV6 May 1, 2007 01:09 AM

Expect to spend about 6-8 hours doing it.....there not HARD just takes time getting the stock ones off.....Yes pacesetters are ur best bet unless u want CIAs but there EXPENSIVE.

Texas Speed has pacesetters for 205 bucks.

if you have no prior experience, and dont know much about it, I wouldnt recommend doing it. Youll run into issues, and be fd if its your only daily driver.

But yeah, set a weekend aside.

FrYd-RyS May 1, 2007 01:13 AM

my friends dad and his friend are basically mechanics theyre building a race car so i should be ok

Question 1. Have they worked on fbodies? (aka, are they colostrophobic?)

Mike Jones May 1, 2007 01:35 AM

I personally wouldn't be afriad of it. I haven't installed headers on a V6 but I installed the headers on my LS1 just fine. Just take your time and you'll be fine. It takes a good amount of work but it's inteligent type work. The hardest part is just trying to reach into some of the parts.

This doesnt include driving it to the dealer.

FrYd-RyS May 1, 2007 01:36 AM

not to much one used to be a mechanic for ferrari and the other is currently building a mustang race car

NoRiceInside May 1, 2007 03:51 AM

i had never done headers on anything, and it took me 4 hours with a lift on a 02 3.8L maro. only problem was a broken stud and the EGR didnt line up. oh and the plug wire boots were the wrong angle. i mean they worked with manifolds, but not with pacesetters.

paarman97maro May 1, 2007 11:38 PM

Yeah, dont forget about the plug wires... hopefully you have somthing other than stockers that will clear the headers... also while youre in there, might as well do the plugs.
