Hey need a quick question answered!!!!!!

Hey,
I found a 96 RS Camaro Auto with 150k miles with trans replaced around 30k miles ago and the body is perfect and inside but the A/c Compressor is blow they said.... is this a good deal for 3k???

if so how much would it cost to replace the a/c compressor by a professional mech.?

or how easy is it to replace by yourself?

thanx!!!!!!

ac compressor is 2-3 hundo. its easy to install and can do it yourself, just as long as you have the equipment. you need a vacume pump and some R134A freeon......know any buddies? stuffs spendy to have someone else do

I would buy it.

so everyone thinks this is a good deal?

Sinister95Z 09-17-2006 12:49 PM

150k is alot of miles, but for 3k I guess you can't argue too much. Go for it and just do the compessor yourself. After the compressor is installed, take it to a shop and have them bleed and fill it up with freon.

paarman97maro 09-17-2006 02:03 PM

its not a bad deal.

Well today i went for my first test drive today and realized that it has a minor leak that seems to be comming from the head gaset the owner said it dont leak in the driveway. And the right muffler had alil black smoke when i started it this morining for the test drive...and it seems to not to have that much pick up either...my bro said it could be the piston rings or somthing? This guy seems to know alot about camaros but might be trying to rip me off... he got a 2000 z28 and a 2002 ss conv. for his wife. plus the one hes selling... knowing all this is it worth it still???

Head gasket leak= big $$ repair bill- figure at least a grand if you take it to a shop- a long day to do it yourself assuming you don't break any bolts in the process.

If the gasket was leaking really bad it would have white smoke- bluish smoke is typical of bad rings, not black.

If it doesn't have any pick-up either it could probably use a good tune-up or even rebuild. Which at this point you are looking at over a grand to rebuild the motor. Sounds like not such a great deal anymore..

keep looking.....im sure if you wait a lil longer and look harder(depending on how hard you are looking) you will find something you like a hell of alot more and will enjoy having not somethingyou have to worry bout dumping money into to get it repaired instead of preformance....its jsut a matter of being in the right place at the right time

3 grand for a car with problems (even minor) is high especially for 10 years old

pentavolvo 11-08-2006 11:06 AM

Just to give you an idea when I bought my 94 6bager, 4 years ago, i paid 4200 with 78k on it and mint condition other then a tear in the seat

Phate 11-08-2006 11:14 AM

Dont touch that car. Black smoke + an oil leak, stay far far away. Not near worth it, you should be able to get a decent condition 120k miles v6 for 3k in the 96 year area.

old thread people.....let it die
