Homemade Cold Air Intake ...

Hey guys, I searched around for a thread that talks about this but I didn't find one, sorry if there is one already. Anyway ... I found about 3 semi-matched sites about how to make a homemade CAI, but they are for v8 cars, but does it make a difference? Here are the links:

http://www.f-body.org/faq/4/4_2.htm#ch4_2aa
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.a...&start=0&num=3
http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/transam/cai.htm (3rd Gen Homemade)

9" long conical K&N air filter - Part No. RE-0810
4-1/8" x 36" Mighty Flow air intake hose - Part No. 96074
Breather Filter - AB3151, BF404 work good
4" hose clamp (if K&N comes with 1, you only need 1 more)

Is a breather filter the same as a "small Fram (or other brand) crankcase filter" , because the 2 fourth gen home made CAI sites say one or the other.

One site says to use 12" x 12" plexiglass ... Not sure why, for some sort of stabilizer or something.

Can someone clear this up for me and let me know which site I should follow... and If a small fram crankcase filter is the same as a breather filter ... and if I really need a plexiglass sheet?

Edit: Do these custom intakes come straight off the throttle body like the lingenfelter or SLP intake?

Thanks guys!! ... :D

I told you Arch has done it for his Grand Prix. You just need piping, its not that difficult. Find out the measurements, and get some good material piping, and you just route it yourself. Like I said before, its the clearance thats gonna be your problem since you want to get around that 1"-2" crunch. And yes the custom intakes come off your throttle body... If it didnt, it really wouldnt be custom.

its relatively simple, take your time with it and it'll turn out real nice. If there are any sensors in the stock tubing be sure to modify it so it will fit on the custom one.

archemedes 03-14-2006 10:05 PM

it's easy to figure out really limit sharp turns and reuse all the sensors

blue89vert 03-14-2006 10:11 PM
