hood shipping?

How much does it generally cost to ship a hood?

I know it depends on distances, and such, but lets just estimate about 1000 miles. Just need a price range, and I need an answer tonite.

look around $300 and don't expect it to be in good shape when it arrives, and that's to a business address (a door runs about $200-250 for a base line)double it if you want it to a house. Hoods are hard to do because of size, and flexability

paarman97maro 09-05-2006 12:06 AM

500 for shipping to a house?! are you serious? I thought you could get them shipped for like 200 at the most? Thats almost as much to ship a car.

paarman97maro 09-05-2006 12:08 AM

summit charges like 70 for shipping a hood... how can it be that much more?

exactly. I ship doors and engines quite often, and normally they charge alot for them. Salvage yards won't ship a hood since they gaurantee damage (even when I worked at the dealership we got hoods with damage, and that was a GM truck traveling 30 miles not common carrier with everything under the sun on it)

Okay.. so the hood from summit is 459, and shipping is 70. That just doesnt sound right. Thats like $200 for a hood. They seem like they should cost more than that. Im just having a hard time believing shipping could be more than the cost of a hood. I was expecting it to be much lower from a seller on ebay.

archemedes 09-05-2006 12:40 AM

try www.freightmanager.com realize summit ships stuff by truck daily so they get a much different rate than an individual

paarman97maro 09-05-2006 12:43 AM

so ups, fedex, or any of those places are going to rape for charges? Yeah this sucks. I found my hood, and VERY cheap.. but this shipping has now bummed me out and added to my of the day :(. I never find good deals.

Phate 09-05-2006 01:01 AM

I just paid 125 to get my hood shipped. But it is of course paying for a double size wood re-enforced box lol. Thats also not a private individual either. I think about 400ish would be correct from an individual for any amount of distance.

I got my gfx from them, and that was a pretty big box. Ah. weak.

So another route. Can I order a hood through a local company, would it still cost me half of my car to ship?

archemedes 09-05-2006 11:07 AM

local probably not as much. UPS uses a total length for their shipping gfx are not really that big in all directions

Well they would have to be at least the width of the hood. and the side pieces I would guess are longer than the hood.

Anyway, I didnt win it. :(. They had a harwood hood, unpainted, unfitted, unused for 150 for like 6 days. I bid 200 today, and was winning until the last 10 mins of course. The hood went for 330, not a bad price at all.. The guy quoted me between 130-180 for freight shipping. I guess I really didnt need to spend the money anyway, but I really want that damn hood! Unless I find a nice deal, Ill have to wait until tax returns.

i paid $100 to have my hood shipped and it was sent to the body shop, not sure what service was used.
