Horrible noise

Horrible ticking noise coming from the valve cover. I dont exactly know what it is. Any help? I think it might be a valve tap but Im not sure. If it is a valve how bad is that and how hard is it to replace?

First95 03-24-2008 08:38 PM

More than likely it's a lifter. It probably collapsed. Not too bad of a fix... I had the same problem.

could be a sticky valve, I know one of mine does untill it warms up but it could be a lifter too...just have to remove the head covers and check it out.

If I keep running the car the way it is will I destroy the motor? so Should I just remove the valve covers to check?

I personally would look first before you run the car like that can cause a worse problem. ;)

also keep in mind injectors tick, a bad lifter that ticks will eventually fail and so will the engine

Chevy2500 03-25-2008 03:04 PM

well it sounds like it is coming from the rear cylinder on the driver side.

Chevy2500 03-25-2008 04:02 PM

does any one make a kit for a 350 motor that has lifters, valves, rocker arms and all that kinda stuff? And what exactly is a roller motor?

archemedes 03-26-2008 12:15 PM

roller motor means it has roller lifters, lifters tend to be sold separate when they are roller, valves and rockers come with heads (only package I know with them) but valves themselves do not have moving parts so if one makes noise the head needs work

Chevy2500 03-26-2008 02:08 PM

is that a loy of money/time to work on the heads?

Chevy2500 03-26-2008 03:04 PM

is there a website or somethng where I can buy a LOW cost motor that is high performance

Bernotas05 03-26-2008 03:37 PM

Buying used on ebay is probobly the cheapest.

69z-28 03-26-2008 03:55 PM

do you need a high perf. motor? you can get like an 80k mile motor used for like 500-1500 bucks. what kinda motor do you even have? what year and whatnot on the car?

Chevy2500 03-26-2008 04:08 PM

I dont "need" a high performance motor. Wher can I get a 350 that cheap? I have a 350 in it now w/ an edelbrock intake manifold and holley carb

Chevy2500 03-31-2008 11:54 AM

I have been looking around and cannot find a motor for that cheap.
