How easy is it to put a new tranny mount in?

First off, wheres the best place to buy a new tranny mount? Shucks/Checkers has them for 36 bucks, but I was wondering if ordering online somewhere is better.

Second, how easy is it to change out a tranny mount? I've got a buddy with a 95 Z who said he changed out about 4 mounts and its easy, but then agian he works at a car shop. :p

Whats the general procedure, do I need much more than a jack and wrenchs?... or is there a website that explains it

Thanks dudes... :D

its wicked easy! lol i did mine in like 15 minutes and i had complications. idk if a 4th gen is the same but i just had to put a jack under the tranny, unbolt the trans crossmember and unbolt the mount from the tranny, it just drops right out and you just unbolt it from the crossmember and put the new one on and reverse the procedure. all you should need is a jack and some wrenches, and jack stands of course. You may need a long pipe or something to break loose the bolts for the crossmember if they are too tight. i would spray lots of penetrating lube on them before you try too hard though b/c i ended up snapping two of my bolts

They are pretty easy, I didn't have to unbolt the crossmember on my car, just jacked the tranny up enough to get enough space to work- in fact I did it with only driving the car onto my 2x6 ramps, that gave me enough space to get under the car.

You can get an Energy Suspension mount from Autozone that will work. Thats what I have used and love, I wouldn't recommend anything else.

The Energy Suspension mounts don't ask you to specify between Auto or Manual on www.autozone.com. The mount works for both?

yea its really easy probably wont take u more than like 20 minutes and ull be able to see how it all goes together once u get under the car

Amurican_Muscle 11-23-2006 04:21 PM

Yep, that was easy. Got her in and works great. My clutch is still slipping a little though. :( I think I still need a rebuild... but for now it will work.

Little question... For the bolt that goes through the crossmember into the mount, do you use a flat washer AND a lock washer or just a lock washer or does it even matter :p... (talking about the Energy Suspension mount)

use both I think, the flat washer s the load out mosre, and the lock washer locks it

blue89vert 11-25-2006 01:56 PM

yep use both

Are these mounts something that should be changed like a maintenance item?

I do notice a lot of movement in the shifter with the suspension, but thats probably just because its my first RWD car where the shifter is directly connected to the tranny and driveshaft I guess.

if its worn out it should be replaced. same with most other things

If your shifter is moving, more than likely your tran mount is starting to go, esp if you have a V6- if its going up and down its your tranny mount, if it happens to go side and side, your motor mounts are way past needing to be changed.

jeez u guys had it easy then.. when i messed up my mount and i pulled it off, my whole drive shaft was like over to the left a bit, and it was a ***** even with the tranny jack to get the new mount on, it took about 3 people and some serious stripped screws to get it back on haha i thought my engine mounts were messed up, but nope, they are alll gravey.. wierd huh?
