how much $$$ needed to make IROC fast?

i thinking about selling my civic and getting a nice '87 or '88 IROC-Z camaro. too bad the 350's only come in auto, so it'll be the 305 manual. the engine is kinda pathetic imo and i dont wanna keep getting spanked by stock b16/b18 civics so i was wondering how muhc $$$ is needed to make the 305 fast, or to swap to a semi-decent engine, like i know ls1 is prolly the best one, but thats like 5g's++. any ideas?
thanks in advance

Dont waist your money on the 305. Either get a 350 auto or swap out the 305 for somthing else in a 5 speed car.
Those 5 speeds cant take too much power though.

jks jks im kidding man

but the best suggestion would be to do what ^^^^^told u

so what swaps would be recommended and how much money do you think that will cost? LT1? 360? how much would it cost to make it in the <13.5's? im just wondering because then i can plan and budget better
thank in advance

It wouldnt take much money to get a third gen camaro into the mid 13s.
You could do it in several ways. Wich one is up to you and how you want to use the car.
Me personaly, I would spend the extra money and go with an LS1 and a 4l80 auto trans. You can do a 6 speed if thats what you realy want.
A stock LS1 with an aftermaket computer in that car would probably put you in the high 12s fairly easy.
You could also go with an older LT1. They dont make as much power as the newer LS1 and is heavier being an iron block but still a good platform to work with and probably a bit cheaper to buy one over an LS1.
The cheapest route would be a carbed 350, built up a bit with some decent heads and cam and a th350 auto. You will lose the overdrive but that trans is real cheap to build strong and dosnt rob alot of power.
It all depends on what you really want and how much you want to spend.
The big trick now is finding a car in decent shape for a good price. They are starting to go up in value.

hmm, sounds good. the main reason i dont like auto transmissions is because i drive my dads auto car alot, and when i drive a manual trans, i have alot more fun... iunno really. is there any manual transmissions that will bolt to the stock 350 instead of the the 700r4?

and yea, i also noticed they gone up in value. i dont think im going to buy a local car though because when i was looking for a car before, the locals were kinda rotted out. more likely im going to pick up a southern us. car :dunno:

Better off getting 4th gen LT1 Z28, those are dirt cheap these days.

I know where you can buy a 12 second Fiero for 6 grand. And get twice the gas mileage of a modded 350.

The 700r4 is the automatic that came in the 3rd gen camaros. I think the 5 speed was a T5.
Both of those are not known for holding alot of power.
Ya a manual is more fun but if you are making big torque an automatic takes atvantage of it better when it comes to drag racing. Dont brake as many parts either.
If you really want one that is going to hold power, I would go with an aftermaket trans or a 6 speed.

This was my 86 IROC
It was just a 305 auto.
I ordered a 9 inch rear and a 4 link for it and was going to drop in my 406 small block with a th350.
Then some prick desided he wanted it more than me and stole it.:hitwithro
Thankfully it was before I put any of that stuff in it.

lol come over to our side. Not everyone is into imports
That was one of five camaros I owned.
The others were a 79 Z28, 80 Z28, 81 Z28 and a 68 SS

R/T kota 01-15-2007 10:35 PM

I just noticed you said 87 or 88 IROC.
Go for the 87 as it is now exempt from the e test.
The 88 and up cars under the new law will never be.

BadAssGN 01-15-2007 10:45 PM

I like the 68 Kota,

Any more shots of it?
