I need to put this to rest!!

Okay, I know some of you are well aware with my electrical issue, but it is driving me beyond insane right now. I was going to go through a drive-thru last night, but ended up having to back out forgetting that my windows wouldnt work because they were acting up, and 2.5 hours in a car without music is a loooong *** ride.

For those of you unfamiliar to my problem, it is this: Sometimes, just randomly, the stereo will shut off and I will lose power to my stereo and power windows only - It will not let me roll them up or down. Then randomly the power will just come back on. Some lights on the stereo will stay turned on, but the clock, and any other feature for music does not work, it does not show any display.

Today, while changing my turn signals, I tried to get to the root of the problem once again, and I didnt get anywhere. Its driving me crazy! I dont know if its linked to my turn signals burning out within a month or what. I was changing the turn signals, and I took a look at each bulb- The right one (which burnt out about a month ago) had cracked off at the base of the bulb, and was fogged up. My left one (Which burnt out yesterday, I thought because of water getting splashed up it burnt out) was exploded inside my corner with black/fogged residue inside the bulb)

I also noticed in my fuse box under the hood that I have no fuses for my headlamps, and I never noticed that before. Do I need fuses there, or could that be the problem?

I noticed there is a little black box labeled battery behind the deck connected to an orange wire. Does this battery die, or what is its function?

I took pictures of the wires coming from and inside the back of my center console if anyone would like to get familiar with them. Sorry its a long post, Im just trying to provide information with pictures so you know what im talking about. I just want to fix this damn problem because its driving me crazy, and how annoying would it be to anyone else to be listening to music and poof! it goes away... then some odd minutes later it turns back on randomly?

Thanks for any help in advance!

well for whatever reason it seems as though someone bypassed the fuses. if you take the fuse box out take a look to see if there are wires going to that fuse location. if not try to see if there are some wired into eachother as if bypassed. this would not explain why they burnout, but it means that you have a short that likes to burnout the bulbs and because there is no fuse the bulbs burnout.

as for the stereo...sound like a wire inside the dash is severed slightly and keeps opening the circuit.

Well the fuse is for the headlamps, but I know the headlamps are connected to the parking/turn lights. I was just wondering why I dont have fuses there, maybe I dont need them or somthing? I will check for the wires tomorrow.

Your turn signal problem reminds me of mine. With mine its odd the bulb works cause it comes on at night and when i lock the car or unlock(u know button makes light flash..blah...blah) But when I use my right turn signal the arrow just comes up and the light doesnt work. Also in the daytime it doesnt work either only time the light comes on is at night or i unlock/lock the car. odd indeed.

paarman97maro 11-28-2005 09:04 PM

yeah, that does sound similar... and on 7 different forums, nobody else has had an answer :(

SOMBirdV6 11-28-2005 09:09 PM

yup, ur bulb crackin mine did the same on the first notice of the problem. I ended up cleaning that area where it cracked and melted into. But still no good results. Well I lie the turn signal worked once then never again...sigh....dam chevys...<3 chevy.

I had to take out the clear corner today to get it out... which took more time.. and they are kinda a pain to get back in if you tighten one screw too much before the others... at least mine are like that.

SOMBirdV6 11-28-2005 09:18 PM

eh? my corner lights are only put in with 1 screw in the center.

Mine take 3. One underneath in the center, and one on each side. It was if I tightened the center one too much, the holes wouldnt line up for the others.

and have the wrong info, haynes is nowhere near close on wiring, and mitchell isn't much better. The shop that I helped at in MI used to send any wireing work to the dealer because of how awful the aftermarket ones were
