judt dont knwo anymore???

well i went down to the gm dealor a lil pissed off about my car still running shitty after i got the egr fixed  and they said the reason my car is still sputtering is becasue the plugs i put in it((platinum 4) he said that he has cars come in all day with them in em and he switch them out puts the right kind in and it runs perfect i asked why he said becasue the p 4 only run good at a sertain heat range and they just arent made for pony cars he said they run good in rice becasue they have high rpms and run hotter he said to go down to local car parts store and get some good old platiunm ac delcos and the maro will gets its go back..... i also asked him about headers and if i should get them or not and he said no i asked why he said the headers on a z28 flow the best and are the best sounding stock many on the road but sure they make them flow better but when u shut off the car that the headers cool faster then the head does and it will worp thehead and have to replace my hole top end :( is this true and since like everyone on this site has headers has any of you have this problem i dont know im so confused now headers or not ??????

oh man. what a dork. first off, i have platinum +4s and dont have any problems at all and i'm not a high revving ricer. as for headers, go back there and beat him with your "high flowing" stock manifolds! headers outflow stock manifolds anyday. period. and the sound you get from headers is unbelievably better than stock. that guy was trippin.

cwfblackz28 12-10-2004 08:08 PM

he didnt say that the manifold outperforms a pair of headers, he said they will make them flow better, but this is the part i was asking about

when u shut off the car that the headers cool faster then the head does and it will worp the head and have to replace my hole top end is this true and since like everyone has headers

NoRiceInside 12-10-2004 09:14 PM

wait so which did he say outperforms the other? you said he said the stock manifold flows better, so that would mean outperform. about the heads warping, thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard. that guys is an idiot.

cwfblackz28 12-11-2004 12:20 AM

he said hands down that header will outperform anyday,
hes the 3rd mechanic that said to keep my exhaust manifold on there in this podunk town

you will only warp the valves if you a running lik straight headers for a while and then shut the car off. then since the exhuast is so short cold air can easily rush up the header and warp the valve. not as much as on a hot day but if you watch drag racing when the run open headers on not so hot days, they will either cap the headers or put a tennis ball in each collector. ive never actually been to a mechanic but from ne story i hear its always ******** and way off. so i say do what everyone else does. HEADERS!lol

let me put it this way at the dealership I worked at we used bosch plugs instead of ac crapos, and most of teh guys had headers with aluminum heads

NoRiceInside 12-11-2004 10:30 PM

lol. aluminum heads are really prone to warpage...i bet youre not feeling too bad cuz we gots cast iron! :woot:
