Been awhile since I have been on, been really busy getting the car done.

First off, my motor is complete. I painted the engine bay, and did a bunch of other mods to the car. I also have a new rear end to put in the car, but am trying to get the car on the road to at least see how the new motor is. A ton of work went into the build and no expense was spared. The result was a a monster. Anyway here are a few pictures of what has been going on. After my pictures..... read on, there is more news.....

Ok, now on to the other news. My engine builder had a car sitting in a storage container since 1999. It hasn't seen daylight since. Has 57k on the clock. My son how is going to be 16 in a few months has had a dream most of his life to build a car for himself with me. So, this being the perfect car, I decided to suprise him and we went for a "parts run" to my engine builders shop. Needless to say, my son was at a loss for words when I told him that he just bought himself a real nice car. By the way, a lt1 and 4l60e tranny come with the car for us to install. Grand total...... 3k for the car and engine/tranny combo. I present to you, my son's first car......... A 1991 Z28

So, that's what has been going on...... other than our 06 Navigator got plowed into by a 16 year old kid that blew a stop sign at 40 mph. Yeah, 12k in damage, but got it back like brand new.

Mike Jones 05-29-2008 11:06 PM

I hope every was ok after the Navigator was plowed into.

Engine looks great and your son recieved one awesome car! Much better than the other project cars you bought him.

Jpack 05-30-2008 09:07 PM

Thanks guys. It has been a long time coming. I actually pulled it out of the garage today, hasn't been out since last Sept. Got a few things to finish up and fab up the CAI I am making. Got a modified stocker on there for right now until I get it fabbed and powdercoated. Anyway, here is a video from today.....

The engine looks sweet! And your son should be pretty happy with that car... Can't wait to see the LT1 in it.

mpe331lx 05-30-2008 09:22 PM

Nice job! Thats a very clean third geen.

What is your engine combo on the red Z? Who did the port work?

Jpack 05-30-2008 09:48 PM

Thanks. Engine combo is a high rev 355 with probably the lightest weight forged rotating assembly out there. It revs very fast. Rods are 6.125 eagle forged, with mahle -5cc coated and forged pistons, bob weight for balacing was 1420 ish' grams. Pistons, pins, rings and locks weighed in @ 410 grams.

Block is zero decked, head gaskets are .027 cometics. All hardware in the motor is all ARP. Oil pump is a mehling HV, and the port chamfered.

On to the heads..... These are one off heads. They started life as LE2 heads I bought from a friend for $50. (Yes you read that right) We did these heads to mimick AFR's new eliminator series. The have new smaller guides, and LS1 sized valves and measure 2.02/160. The weight difference is 42% lighter than the old valves in the heads. This should help minimize valve float. All hardware is titanium, behive springs, comp promagnums etc. Heads flow and unheard of for stock casting max @ 305@.600.

All work was done by Clayton Racing. Jerry Clayton is a famous Top fuel guy from the 70's. He did the head work and balancing the rotating ass'y, his son Corey built the motor.

There are a lot more secret stuff that has been done that I am not going to let out. But this set up should be in the 500 range on motor and then I will hit it soon with a 250 shot.

Yeah, it's stock and a sleeper...lol

Mike Jones 05-30-2008 10:39 PM

Wow, definitely let me know when you go to the track.

FORCE_FED_Z 05-30-2008 11:16 PM

Nice work- love the sleeper look and the amount of effort you put into your car. Also can't wait for the 3rd gen to come out- one heck of a sweet 16...

whitecamaro96 05-31-2008 04:05 PM

sounds awsome cant wait to hear what it does at the track
