long tube headers?
Hey okay i have a 94' z28 and i wanted to run long tube headers but i live in california and the guy who did my exhaust said that a smog technician wouldn't pass my car if i had long tube. So is my exhuast guy crazy or am i? Plus how much differnce would performance be if i just put on some shorty's? I need your help

if you want performance get long tubes. go with some hooker or pacesetter coated longtubes, you can order them with all the emmisinos provisions which is an A.I.R. tube on each side and EGR on back passenger side. other than that youll be fine. if you have a good exhaust guy, maybe get an offroad y pipe and get a cat welded on the end of it before your catback. you can use stock cat if you want, otherwise you can prolly buy a y pipe for the long tubes with a single cat, but ive never looked into it. im sure someone else will know for sure.

Even if you do pass smog, you will not pass the visual if your city has it.
|
why wouldnt he pass visual if he has emmisions hookups, smog pump and a cat?
|
If the cat is moved at all from the stock location they can fail you. It will all really depend on who you get to do your inspection. I know a lot of people on some of the other boards are running LTs in cali, but it can be difficult.
|
yea that is the most retarded thing. then chop up an ORY pipe and put the cat EXACTLY where it goes. if that doesnt work tell the guy to **** off, slide sideways outa that ***** with your middlefinger out the window and register it as a race car.

matt you have to understand smog. here in cali nothing aftermarket on your car is smog legal unless it has been CARB approved (california clean air resouce board). they give every product a CARB EO (executive order) number. without the CARB EO number visable (mostly in the form of a sticker from the manufacturer placed somewhere near the factory emissions label), the car wont pass smog. regardless if the numbers are fine and it retains all smog hook ups.
in response to the topic, you can get BBK or SLP shorties. i know they both have CARB EO numbers. both headers dont add much horsepower (in comparison to LTs) and they are pricey, but its your only option. ...besides a bootleg  |
