Loud thump on acceleration

So last night I was crusing around when my maro started making a funny noise. When I take off from a dead stop there is a loud thump under the car. You can feel it rattle the console. I had a backseat passenger that said it felt like it was right underneath him, it felt to me like it was under the console.

If I take off real slow it wont do it but if I try to take off with any kind speed it thumps. It only does it from a dead stop. If I gun it while it's moving everything is normal.

What do you guys think?

Auto Tranny.

It's not banging when it shifts into 2nd, is it? If so, your tranny mount may be broken.

I crawled under the car and took a look at the tranny mount, it looks like its the original mount but it doesn't seem to be in bad shape. After checking around on the boards it seems pretty easy to replace the mount. My only question is where do I put the jack at on the tranny? I don't see a clean place to put the jack.

Sounds like a classic tranny mount to me.

tranny mount fo sho

2000v6cam 03-25-2007 08:10 PM

sounds like a tranny mount to me also, but it also kinda sounds like it could be the torque arm bushing or maybe the bolts are loose on it or something

blue89vert 03-26-2007 07:26 PM

yeah it could be a torque arm bushing too. i would replace both of them at the same time. thats what i did. get them both from energy suspension

NoRiceInside 03-26-2007 10:25 PM

well a torque arm bushing woult clunk when you hit the brakes. or if youre in reverse and you mash the gas. it will clunk then also. so it sounds like your trans mount is bad. go to autozone and get both in polyurethane. theyre both cheap.

Tranny mount, same exact think happened to me.. As far as a place for the tranny jack just put it right before the mount and push the shaft up a bit, remove old one then replace.. real easy fix if u have a lift

Ok so i'm going to replace the mount today. I plan on putting the car up on jack stands then jacking the trans up and replacing the mount. Can I just jack the trans using a normal floor jack or do I need to get a tras jack adapter for it? Before the mount there is only the oil pan and after the mount there is only a small part bolted to the tranny (which I assume will snap off if I use it to jack the trans up).

Well it was definatly the tranny mount. When I pulled the old one off it was busted in two. Thanks for the help!

Hey man, i have the same problem, wanted to ask.... finally..... where did u put the jack??? the jack is, i guess, just to allow u to change the mount freely but won't need nothing but a very light lift, am i right?

Guys don't laugh at me but what's the correct or complete word for tranny??? I live in Mexico so i have to translate every word you all use, just sometimes the right word won't come in my head, even when i know the meaning.
