LS1 Stroker

After thinking about it long and hard I've decided to make some real power this winter. I've decided I won't supercharge it but will stroke it out.

The question is do I get a stroker kit and end up with 382ci or do I buy a six liter iron block with a stroker kit from SLP and end up with 402ci but have an extra 100lbs from the block.

You want power go with a blower... :D

OR..do a stroker and a blower later...

I would say stick with the block you have- less parts to buy = more $$ in your pocket..

It's really not a big price difference.

According to http://www.dougrippie.com/ their head/cam kit is worth 460 horsepower/435 ft-lbs and their 382 stroker is worth 500 horsepower/485 ft-lbs.

If you gonna stroke go big with the 402.

That is almost impossible, be happy with a 427. ;)

I'v seen 396 stroker kits on ebay for the lt1, not sure if it is legit, or if they make one for the ls1.

$17k? just buy the LS7 engine and you'll have 505hp for less money.

I have a subscription. The more I think about it the more I want to get an iron block and end up with 402ci. This way I can buy the block now, and over time put the engine together and by the end of winter bring out the new beast. I mean I'm going to have to buy new heads (AFR 220's) an LSX intake, a cam, etc... so I might as well buy the entire block and build it up outside the car. Then just take the accesories off the LS1 and put them the new stroker.

Im going to be build a budget motor in the next week for my car since i just dont flat out of have the cash to support a $4000 stroker....

Im buying a 6.0L LQ4 block for 695$ and 8 federal mogul aftermarket hyperutectic pistons for the 4.00" bore for 25$ a pop and the ring set for 100... brand new!, reusing the stock rods, and crank with new bearings and bolts etc... Using stock heads too.

This alone will cost me 1200 to make it complete, ill get 364CI, iron block and halfway decent pistons (not forged)... but then again i dont have the cashflow to pop for a 600$ set of pistons and $700 set of rods.... when i do have the money i can just buy the 2500$ stroker rotating assembly later on when i have the cash.

Just an example of what im doing.
