Stock alternator for a 96' LT1 - how many amps is it? Anyone know?

I think 140

and I think 160 is the High output ones

I think the Z28's came with the 160...but I could also be mis-informed.

so 200 would be an upgrade?

an upgrade yes, but also a little more strain on the motor as well...

Better a strain on the engine than the system straining the electrical system.

sure...if youre a moron. damaging the engine is more expensive than damaging the electrical system. besides all you need is a capacitor to keep your system good, the stock alternator will work fine.

A higher amp alternator isn't going to ruin the engine. I mean come on Caleb.

160 would be fine..

How many amps is your system drawing? Your alt just might be getting tired..

i agree man...its not going to ruin the engine. at most it will just cause the car to suck more gas. no worries! with gas being almost free (only 3.00 a gallon) we can fill up cheap :banghead:
