LT-1 Alternator...

Stock alternator for a 96' LT1 - how many amps is it? Anyone know?

97z2801ss 05-13-2006 03:22 PM

I think 140

97z2801ss 05-13-2006 03:28 PM

and I think 160 is the High output ones

Sinister95Z 05-13-2006 04:37 PM

I think the Z28's came with the 160...but I could also be mis-informed.

MeenZ28 05-13-2006 05:24 PM

so 200 would be an upgrade?

FORCE_FED_Z 05-13-2006 09:26 PM

an upgrade yes, but also a little more strain on the motor as well...

MeenZ28 05-14-2006 10:29 AM

Better a strain on the engine than the system straining the electrical system.

Sinister95Z 05-14-2006 03:40 PM

You might as well go with a polished alt. will you are at it....aahhhh shiny:D

sure...if youre a moron. damaging the engine is more expensive than damaging the electrical system. besides all you need is a capacitor to keep your system good, the stock alternator will work fine.

MeenZ28 05-14-2006 05:29 PM

A higher amp alternator isn't going to ruin the engine. I mean come on Caleb.

97z2801ss 05-14-2006 07:31 PM

160 would be fine..

FORCE_FED_Z 05-14-2006 08:05 PM

How many amps is your system drawing? Your alt just might be getting tired..

i agree man...its not going to ruin the engine. at most it will just cause the car to suck more gas. no worries! with gas being almost free (only 3.00 a gallon) we can fill up cheap :banghead:
