LT1 <<VS>> LS1 Pros & Cons

What are the pros and cons on these engines? What makes them so diffrent? I know the LT1 has better take off and an LS1 has better high end. I also have heard that a LT1 puts out better Torque, Then again a LS1 sounds **** good with just even a stock exhaust. So what are your pros and cons? Dont know if someone already started this topic. Hope not. Let me hear what you think. Anyones .02 are welcome!

X2 on what you said.... lt1 con is weight... the ls1 has a all aluminum block along with heads...... but the lt1 has a bullet proof block... being more durable... i think the lt1 is a lot durbale engine.. and is gona be around a lot longer than the ls1's.. The lt1 is a torque monstor...the the ls1 has the better set of heads than the lt1.. that i was informed of on here.. the ls1 has a plastic intake i have to lauph at that desging shitty if you ask me.. but you could go on forever on this subject.... there both good motors though... thats part of my opinion..

Ls1's are gone in 3rd gear, I raced one kept up till it hit third gear it was bye bye, ohh it just so happend to be my dad;)

The LS1 responds better mod for mod than the LT1 does for some reason (i.e. bigger gains out of stuff you add on to the car), from what I have heard anyway. I am putting down 335 HP to the wheels with only a few mods (see my Cardomain site for a list).

I've seen stock / lightly modded LT1s run low 14s while the stock / lightly modded LS1s do mid - high 13s.

The one thing I will give the LT1 though, I think its exhaust rumble is better than that of the LS1.

i know we just ended this arguement. actually chad ****** me up and closed it before i had a chance to get my part in. we left off as 1badz saying it was a "proven fact" that the LT1 had the LS1 beat in torque. well he must be a genius to be able to prove that 325 is more than 335.

An LT1 will run side by side with an LS1 if you get some 15 or 18 degree heads. Other then that the LS1 is better out of the box but once you open the engine up it is who has the most money will end up with the faster engine.

JesasaurusRex 01-27-2005 03:59 AM

It all comes down to money, design wise, an LSx is superior to an LTx hands down. Still in my book the 1958 (i believe that was the starting year i could be wrong tho but 4 some reason that # poped in my head) - 1992 (are they called Gen 2 blocks? im brain farting like a mofo right now) ANywayz like Im saying those 4 me are just a **** load more cost effective. Yes newer is usually better but also usually more expensive.

LSx is better than LTx just to get that out there tho.

I think he beat you because you just raced a LS1 SS, My friend has a 98 SS and **** that car is fast. Only think I dont like about it is the Ram Air, On the hood there is tunnels so by the time the air hits the box its lost some of it. But **** that car is fast and drives like a champ. **** 17 old kid with an SS.

who was it that said they did a report on the lt1 vs ls1? me and 1badz are gonna do our senor projects on it, he is gonna do lt1 im gonna do ls1 and see if we cant find out some more facts.

archemedes 01-27-2005 09:11 PM

don't base on hearsay, the ls1 is designed for longer life than any previous engine (required by federal mandate)people believe because it's aluminum it's not as strong well tere are still a few '69 427's that were aluminum going strong and they were usually drag raced. Which is better comes down to preference, you could ask 100 people which is better and have debates all over the place, it's the same as asking what brand is better ford or chevy (I know everyones feelings here, but look at the other side of the street)

JesasaurusRex 01-27-2005 10:35 PM

The only thing that should really wear on a block is the cylinder walls, and those are not aluminum (atleast im 99 percent sure theyre not) on any aluminum block.

97z2801ss 01-27-2005 11:54 PM

no there's sleeves...ure right. And arch is right to theres one of each in the garage so im not gonna really argue either

FORCE_FED_Z 01-28-2005 10:46 PM

I like the LT, but thats just because I have a couple...

I have seen lots of power out of each, and its just a matter of $$ who goes faster-

Mike Jones 01-28-2005 11:23 PM

I won't even get into this debate.
