MSD Optispark?

Anyone every seen this before or have one? Is it better than stock or a waste of money? I think mines going out and wondering if this would be a decent investment...

never seen it but i always liked MSD products ive had

That is only the cap and rotor kit. There are little improvements, but not a whole lot. A good investment would be the entire billet MSD optispark unit including the new optical piece and adjustable timing. Like the one seen here: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

yeah that is not the whole unit but it is still suppose to be better than stock accel also makes one

Yah but the differance between $500 and $120...

I just bought the MSD distributer, it is a VERY nice piece. Makes the stock one look like poo poo. Not to mention is has a nice red/black color combo which both of us like..

What are the symtoms that your car is doing that make you think the opti is going? If it is, I would go ahead and get an MSD if you can afford it along with a new opti.

NoRiceInside 04-23-2006 05:58 PM

i wouldnt replace your opti unless you actually have to. in my experience the opti works fine. on my Z it had 140,000 miles and when i replaced it i felt no difference. the old one was still in perfect working order.

the only reason you would need an opti is if you had one of the two optispark codes for either a low resolution or a high resolution error.

if it felt like you needed a tune up, then sure, get the cap and rotor. i'd get the msd cap and rotor over a stock one, but only if i needed it.

whoa, you actually bought it grant? ha now i bet you need someone to install it? i can do it for you in 2 hours. and im cheaper than a shop :D

MeenZ28 04-23-2006 06:12 PM

Well she does need a tune up. I havent done the plugs and wires or anything since the accident. And for one reason or another she is very hard to start cold. She cranks but takes for ever to turn over. Makes me think the plugs are not in the best shape. I figured a small up grade on the distributor couldnt hurt. But $500 for the whole opti is a last resort thing epessally since its probably not necissary and i need to get my side exiting exaust done. These electric cut-outs are just collecting dust damn it.

If you want to do it then cool. How good are you at changeing plugs on a stock LT1 without headers... that I'd paid good money for someone else to do for me. ;)

stock manifolds sucks. i can do it if you let them cool off first.

but the cold start thing might be your fuel pump. my Z had that issue. maybe next time im down at a WCFB meet i can check it out.

MeenZ28 04-23-2006 06:34 PM

Well, that maybe true but i dont go to the meets that much anymore. So you most likly wouldnt find me there. I garentee the manifolds would be cool, id have her sitting in the garage the night before if we planned on a day.

yeah you just need small hands (like me) and good tools (like me)
