My key is stuck in the ignition!?

Hey guys I need some help hopefully someone has had this problem before and knows how to fix it because it's really starting to bother me. I got a new shift knob for my car (automatic '95 Z28) and it works fine but for some reason when I put the key in, so I could remove it from park to get at it easier, for whatever reason, the key decided not to come back out. I can turn the car on and off I just can't get it back to the "LOCK" area so that I can remove the key. Annoying :banghead: and stupid. I tried everything with locking unlocking doors, turning the wheel, etc. etc.. it just won't go back into the "LOCK" area where it needs to. If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great as far as a reason goes the closest thing I have is maybe when I greased up the actual shift stick some of it went into a sensor?? And the sensor might be telling the car it is still in "drive" or "neutral" when really it is in park.. But hell, I don't know if there even is a sensor lol.. any help would be great :) thanks guys

I got money on its the sensor that tells the car when its in park, thats the only time the key will come out.

If that dont work, try taking ur shift knob off and putting the old one on. And if that dont work, you might have to take ur counsole apart and play with the park sensor. BTW, what shift knob did u get?

well my dad got it out with a bit of play, but it wouldn't go back in and turn again untill u mess with it for a while again and now it wont come out lol.. a friend said it might be a solinoid(sp)?? anyone think that could be it? And it's a universal carbon fiber one, it looks nice, ill get a pic tomarrow of it

An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the Ignition Lock Cylinder. This failure will prevent the vehicle from starting. The cost to repair the Ignition Lock Cylinder is estimated at $50.00 for parts and $97.50 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

Thats direct from msn auto 95 camaro reliability page. - Just FYI, incase it helps.
