Need Help! Car won't stay running! :(
The other day my car starting doing something wierd. Everytime i got on the gas it acted like it wanted to hesitate. So i took it straight home and tried to see if we could figure out what it was. Well i didnt really worry about it that night. The next morning i get up to go to work and i start the car, it starts then after the rpms start to drop so it can idle it just dies. The rpms wouldnt even stay up for more then a couple seconds. Anyone have any ideas? Even when i hit the gas to try to make it stay running, like i said the gas wants to hesitate. Thanks for your help in advance!

Ok, Ignore this post. I have figured out the problem. I will tell everybody what the problem is on this thread just incase someone else runs into the problem, insted of the deleting the thread. I unplugged the mass air flow sensor and everything seemed to be fine, no sluggishness or anything. So i'm getting ready to leave to go get a MAF sensor. :/

Sounds like the problem I had when I disconnected the alarm, lol the **** alarm wouldn't let the car start until I reprogrammed it.

Well. I just got the MAF sensor installed and its working wonders!! This looks like it was my problem all along with the car dieing at low rpms/idle. The MAF sensor seemed to be going out for quite some time now. I think i could shave a whole second of my drag time now! :-D

okay i am clueless on this but my car idles at 1000-1100rpm for like the first 20 minutes of running, and if i dont let it idle that long and let the Rpms drop to at least 800 and when i shift into Reverse or to drive it will almost stall you dont hear the engine for a whole second then Bang full throttle for another second then back to idle at 1200 and i have to hold the brake cause it will do like 40mph at 1200rpm LOL, alright after this problem(happens everyday) i go up a hill or something and hit the gas alittle bit and the engine makes a deeper noise but nothing else changes and if i let off then go again sometimes it works most of the time nothing changes.. except i am going slower now lol, um its tbi everything is hooked up, smog controls, everything is there and works sometimes my check engine light comes on.. every now and then. i dunno why though, it has a Not stock 350 with 20,000 miles on it the original motor was a 305 tbi.. could it be the fuel filter? or the spk plugs?
|
check what code is stored (every time the light comes on there is a code) almost sounds like an egr miss though

i had the same maf problem, and me and 69z-28 drove all the way to randhurst (which is like a half hour away) and it was dying the entire way there and back all because i didn't have the book to see what the code meant (we checked it about half way there) the new (rebuilt) maf was only like $120

if the code doesn't read teh ecm is probably bad (real common on gm vehicles)

Ok, Here is the full story/update on the problems i have been having. Hope someone can help me!
My check engine light came on at random times. I didnt think anything of it at first until i went to go start my car one morning and as soon as i started it up it would run then die, wouldnt even idle. So i replaced the MAF and it seemed to fix it but i was still having rought idle issues(idle was surging at lower rpms). Then i got another light and it said it was the MAF Burn-Off Relay, so i replaced that and the MAF Sensor relay and while i was at it i went ahead and changed the IAC. It seemed to be running better except that it was CHUGGING at idle insted of surging. So i checked the codes again and now im getting a code 33 (MAF Sensor) and a code 45 (Rich Exhaust). Anyone have any ideas? Could this be something simple like the fuel filter or could be something as complicated as the injectors? Thanks in advance. |
clear the codes, and see if those same ones come back, a fuel filter won't set a maf code, or rich,an o2 sensor, and maf sensor both can cause that. So can a bad ecm (I used to have a dozen test ones for teh dealership) what you describe is exactly what I had on a c4 vette that ate my lunch (was one of teh first vettes I worked on) to catch it I ran out of gas doing a road test, the gauge showed half a tank, teh vette the ecm controlled the digital dash.If you can find someone with a car like yours you can swap the ecm to test that (maybe a junk yard would let you if you ask nice)

um my check engine light comes on but the engine is still there..
J/k the engines there lol but it comes on random too.. but i havent had any stalling problems yet except when i start in morning and go without it idling for a minute.. it will stall.. |
