need help please

hey, so today i was going to get an oil change because its been like 3200 miles since my last, and on my way the service engine light came on. i got there and they changed it, said the light was probably on because i needed the change, and it should be fine now. i get a quarter mile from the shop and it goes on again. i put the car in my garge and didnt drive it for a few hours and it was fine when i started driving again later, and it poped up again. im not sure if i should go get it checked out or what, also when i got gas after the oil change, there was a small amount of smoke comming from the oil cap. any help would be great, i have a 94 v6 3.4 with 84k

thanks

Go to an autoparts store, they'll run the codes for free. Then you'll be able to tell what's going on.

Oh and welcome to :yeahpc:

Yes take it to a auto parts store and have them run it on the scanner for free If you dont have one.

And Welcome to the site

jesse89 Aug 16, 2007 06:55 PM

archemedes Aug 16, 2007 07:38 PM

and smack the idiot at the lube shop for thinking it was on because you needed an oil change (if the ses light is on from oil you aren't driving)

paarman97maro Aug 16, 2007 10:34 PM

 agreed with arch's first statement... but yeah take it to an auto parts store to get it scanned.

ITSA6 Aug 16, 2007 10:56 PM

are you running stock or aftermarket exhaust? i had an exhaust sensor go bad on my exhaust ran the car for over a year with no problems

98CamaroZ28 Aug 16, 2007 11:27 PM

Thats why I do my own oil changes, yes go get that checked out by the auto store ;)

whitecamaro96 Aug 17, 2007 01:18 AM

yeah just about any auto store will scan it for you mine came on the other day so i just stopped by a chvy dealer cause i was close and they wanted $90 and to drop my car off for a day so i said **** you and drove down the road and did it for free at advanced auto

jesse89 Aug 17, 2007 08:41 AM

im running the stock exhuast, but my friend said it may be going, because it sounds way more throaty then any v6 ive heard, it honestly almost sounds like a v8.

and i would have changed my oil but i had been putting it off, and i was worried about getting it done right away

when i first checked my oil there was none on the dipstick and smoke was comming out of the tube

hope i get this all worked out for cheap, my camaro looks like it just rolled off the production line other than 2 scrathes, its pretty much in perfect condition

change your oil. put in some max life stuff and a filter. you can check the check engine code but they might tell you it's an EGR Code. which is just ******** not even worth worrying about. mine had the EGR problem i remember now it was a 1994 with 124k on it. it only turned on when i was on the interstate or attempting to go fast. but change your oil and get the code read both easy things just find the time to do them

ITSA6 Aug 17, 2007 09:03 AM

hey try to post some pics of your cari want to see a good lookin 94 mine looked like ****

jesse89 Aug 17, 2007 10:12 AM

ok, i used maxlife full synthetic this time, they also cleaned out my fuel injectors and did an iv drip of this stuff that cleans out you intake and engine. ill take some pics tonight or tommaro morning because my car needs a wash and i gota find my digi camera lol. thanks guys for the help

btw, drove to my girlfriends house this morning, no light, never came on. ill still get it checked out anyways tho.

ITSA6 Aug 17, 2007 11:22 AM

run it on the interstate for a bit see if it turns on then

paarman97maro Aug 17, 2007 11:25 AM

It stores the codes for like 50 starts or somthing, so its still stored somewhere... I would get it checked out for sure to know what the issue was.
