well i went to advanced auto parts today and they said they dont do the scan, the guy said autozone would but only if 96 or newer. i know someone with a shop so im gona see if they can scan it for me, but it wont be for atleast a few days, anyone know if this may be warning of an immediate danger?

For a '94 you should be able to check the codes yourself. Found this, hope it helps..

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

They can do it but most places I have seen wont touch it Unless its 96 or newer with the ODB II scan port. When I worked at advance we had the whole kit to use all the different types but most people didnt get into it because it is a pain in the ***. They allways told us to tell them to go to a garage if we werent sure, Since we are held liable for it if we tell them the wrong thing. the 96 and newer cars just plug in turn the key. Its easy they break it down barney style. Take it to a garage if you want to get it done right They allways told us to tell them to go to a garage if we werent sure.

ok well i went over to this guys house whos really into fixing cars even for free on the side and he brought out a hand held scanner, looked undr my dash and said, what year is this? i told him a 94 so he said that he didnt have a computer for pre 96 cars, and no place around here would. he said they dont make them anymore, and they arent needed because the computer isnt used on the inspection for cars that old. he then told me that the only thing that my computer really checks is the o2 sensors, and theres 2 on my car. he told me not to worry about it, that its not worth it to replace them. so he said that if im still worried, or want a second opinion, i should bring it to a garage to get it diagnosed, but the car is fine.

the guy is a tool (and should not be allowed to touch your car even if he pays you), the older system checked all emissions related sensors (there are about 100 different codes) use the paper clip and count flashes, or spend 12 bucks on the tool at any auto parts store (my scan tool works on any gm car though no matter what year) I would at least pick up a chilton or haynes manual (it has the code list, and instructions)

complete ******** i had mine checked last year by Oreilly Auto Parts they have the scanner did it for free. EGR Code or O2 Sensor would be my guesses and really not that big of a worry in my book.
