Odd noise from passenger side rear.
 

This has been a recent developement...kinda. Well here is my problem, I have been noticing a clunking/dull rattling sound coming from what sounds to be the rear right suspension area. It happens when I hit even the slightest bumps in the road and seems to be worse when I am going around a corner. It reminds me of the rattle of the struts in a 1995 era Cavalier. I have not really gone under the car to check it out since I am at college and don't have a jack. I tried to shake the rear tire and everything seems solid. WTF?:banghead: :confused:

U know it may be a wheel bearing, Im having the same sound issue's, This seems to a common thing in all camaro's....it sound sliek my right rear wheel is making a sound like when you run over something sound with out feeling like your running over something.

I had a clunking noise like that. It was actually the trans mount. I know the noise you are speaking of to b/c I have a 97 cavailier :lolsign: Try that b/c you can get a nice polyeurothane one for like 20 bucks before you invest a lot of money into the suspension. Unless you find out what it is for sure. I had replaced the panhard bar and got one from UMI, replaced the shocks, changed the rear end fluid, and checked everything else out and it ended up being the trans mount. Go figure.

Wheel bearings rarely make a thunk rattling sound- usually a humming sound that varies with speed. Might be a shock mount. Also check your spare tire-they can come loose and rattle slightly.

Just take your car jack and get the car up since you are at school and take a look.

I don't have the spare and jack in the car right now.

Well I guess that narrows down what it could be then huh?

I would think you have at least one friend that has a jack you can use either way though..jack the car up on the pinch weld to let the suspension hang and check everything to see if you find something loose..thats probably your best place to start.

I'll give that a try, maybe something just loosened up. The car only has 45,000 miles on it.

check all your mounts , that low of miles tends to help rust (rust loves parked cars, do your car a favor and use it before it rots)

Rust is a non-issue. This car is spotless very well taken care of and always stored in a heated shop during winter.

you'd be amazed what will happen I have seen cars in museums rust at suspension points, the humidity in the air is what does it (and a heated garage can make it worse as you get condensation on the ground) check anywhere there is a rubber boot (shock mounts are a great place to check) don't say it can't be something when suggested or it may bite you later.

yea i have a humming noise comming from my rear right side, so my dad is gonna take my camaro in friday to have it checked out.

I have been looking at other forums and some guy on LS1tech had a similar problem. People suggested looking at LCA bolts and bushings. Another thing is that I have horrible wheel hop heard that could possibly be a trans mount. I'll have to check it out when I go home this weekend.

it could be all of those factors fromt he E-Brake sticking to the wheel bearings to the LCA bolts and bushings...God I hope its not to expensive to fix..

Update.
 

Well I looked under the car this weekend and didn't find anything obviously loose or messed up. I decided to take the time to install my new LCAs and my LCA relocation brackets. The install eliminated the noise problem and also 99% of the wheel hop. The old LCAs had really soft bushings, so I think the new polyurethane bushings really helped. :D
