Oil Pressure Too High...

Mayhem's been having some oil pressure issues(too high) for a while now, and we've been trying to figure out what's causing this. We all had different ideas/opinions on it. She had an oil change around a month or 2, and that didn't help, so she had a flush, and then new filter/oil. She seemed to be better for a little bit, and then it just got right back up there again. Suggestions?

what oil are you using. despite what arch says, use 5W-30. the manual says that 10W-30 is ok but it recommends 5W-30.

i had 10W-30 and it got really low pressure, so i switched back to 5W-30 and never had a problem.

10w-30, the same thing that car has been using for the last 11 years and it didn't have the problem till late this fall(but then it didn't get driven, and first thing we did this spring was change it).

lemme get my book and see what it says for high pressure...

high pressure usually means a main bearing going, or a bad gauge or sending unit (all my olds engines showed 75 psi at idle just before going to 0)and every gm vehicle comes from teh factory with 10w30 in california 5w30 may be a bit thin in the summer

NoRiceInside 05-29-2005 02:19 AM

since you flushed it there shouldnt be anything blocking the oil galleries, so i guess its the gauge.

archemedes 05-29-2005 02:20 AM

flushing can further block though, get a good aftermarket gauge and double check it

it did get better for awhile after the flush but then started back up. Also, if driven for a long period of time, the oil pressure goes back to pretty much where it should be.
