Overheating..
 

Hey guys I have an 86 iroc z28 blah blah the whole shabang. It has a rebuilt 350 in it and I bought it from a guy that did all the work. It seems to be over heating.. I noticed the problem and changed the thermostat and flushed the radiator with no change. Then I realized the fan wasnt working so I hard wired it to my battery to turn on when the car is on and that helps immensely. But now it seems to run around 220 and every once and a while it jumps to 240+.. this temp is way too damn hot and I am wondering if anyone else is having heating problems in their camaro's and if they found a solution thanks guys!

Check your timing, make sure you aren't running too far advanced-

Also, try taking the thermo completely and see where you run. If your car came equipped with A/C and you don't use it, take out the AC radiator in front of radiator. This will help out hugely, it will get nice fresh air when you are driving. I would also check and make sure there is nothing underneath blocking air from coming up and also check to make sure there is nothing blocking the radiator itself.

Other than that its hard to say..you can try some "water wetter", I personally haven't used it but have heard others say it works well.

yes i have heard of this water wetter.. I tried geting some from the local advance auto parts and they didnt have it so Im gonna hit up a racing shop tomorrow or this weekend.. The timing is set at 6 or 8 i believe it was set at 12 when I got the car.. which is way too advanced also tonight i was driving it with no troubles so I dont know what the problem is haha i guess it was 100 degrees and humid as hell yesterday when it was running quite hot. Thanks for the input though :)

While water wetter will help (ive never run it) thats not the cure to your problem. Its got other issues. Seems like you jimmy rigged the fan there, are you sure its getting enough voltage? Your best bet is to use a relay so the distance between the bat and the fan are shortest and use the appropriate guage wire. Im guessing you're using a switch or something, i dont see how its directly to the battery or the fan will run even when the car is off. Fill us in some more and maybe I can help you a lil better.

lol ive never heard jimmy rigged before. you could just run the positive wire to somethin that turns on when u start the car. or turn the key like an ignition lead.

is your lower air damn still intact? I had overheating issues for a couple summers, and came to find out (eventually) that I didnt even have my air dam on anymore! 25 dollars later I installed mine and I can drive nonstop in 90 degree weather without getting too hot
