Perfomance

ok i just installed a cam, lifters, and new rockers
im thinking about getting headers and a new exhaust
what are some really cheap good headers
this performance place will sell me a set of flowtech heads for a $100
im wondering if that is good or not
also the exhaust i have two dual pipes coming off a single muffler
what should i have coming off the heads and should i go with two mufflers?

Greg Norris 09-20-2008 06:43 PM

i would say herronperformance, but you already bought a set of headers.

you have a 2-1-2 exhaust that comes from the headers to a y-pipe, to a muffler that splits and dumps with a twin exit exhaust. dont mess with 2 mufflers unless you go true duals.

what cam did you install? did you replace the valvesprings?

69z-28 09-20-2008 07:38 PM

your doing it wrong. haha. shoulda got headers first. you will need headers and an aftermarket intake or sometihing to get air in and out. which is full exhaust and a tune will prolly help depending on what cam you went with... but if the car is an automatic you will need a stall converter as well otherwise its gonna be slower than it was before. give us some more info on what car and what cams/other upgrades you've done and we can help you more. headers are a must tho. coated hooker longtubes or coated pacesetter long tubes are prolly your best bet, with an offroad y pipe and then any aftermarket catback will do fine.

hiiimitalian 09-20-2008 09:12 PM

ok
for that question i did not replace valve springs
right now i have a put in a little over stock cam , with lifters and new pushrods and some roller rockers
i have the long tube pacesetters in the garage right now waiting on what im going to do now
so help me out thanks

what are the specs on the cam, you should be ok with the springs as long as your cam lift isnt exceeding that of the springs, and i commented on your other thread as well.

hiiimitalian 09-21-2008 07:46 PM

really i dont know the specs i dont have anything on it anymore
all i know is it is a bit over stock
but the springs are good my mechanic did it and said it will be fine i have driven it after it has been done

as long as its just a little over stock (which leads me to believe its a "hot cam") then you should be good for the springs.

hiiimitalian 09-21-2008 09:55 PM

yea that is right
anyways
what should i do now
with the exhaust or any other mods?
coming off the y pipe
can you run true dual off the cat or u need a true dual off the headers?

69z-28 09-21-2008 11:35 PM

if theres any cam in the motor other than stock, the springs should be replaced. those should be replaced with a cam before ANYTHING else. stock valve springs shouldnt even be placed with a hotcam. what car is it exactly? im assuming an LT1 but still not sure....

i would recomend running a 3" y pipe with a single high flow cat(if you have to run one) then a 3" catback. it will be plenty and sound great. i'd recommend a magnaflow catback for something simple, cheap and extremely effective.

hiiimitalian 09-21-2008 11:50 PM

ok its a 93 z28 lt1
i was thinking the same run a y pipe
and then a catback
i have a question is this gunna give it that loud badass sound
because im sick of them mustangs going around showing off thinking they have somthing hot under the hood but they only have a cute little exhaust
thanks

Sinister95Z 09-22-2008 12:37 AM

If you want it to really sound badass, go with true duals. It will not cost you any more than a quality cat-back. Since you already have headers, here is a parts list that will help you out with duals. Have a good exhaust shop weld it all up for you.

3" Stepped Band Clamp (2)
Summit or Jegs Universal X-pipe kit
Bullet, One chamber flowmaster or Chambered mufflers (2 of your choice)
Universal Turn Downs (2)

All of that will run you less than $250. Check the price of almost any cat-back and you will wonder why anybody runs anything else...lol

Here is a thread of mine that will help illustrate how to accomplish building a decent set of true duals.

hiiimitalian 09-22-2008 12:48 AM

where is it 250 like where would i be looking?
i also heard it is very bad on clearance and they lay really low to the ground

Sinister95Z 09-22-2008 03:18 AM

All of the parts I listed can be bought through Summit Racing or Jegs. Free shipping too.

If you get someone that knows what they doing, clearance will not be an issue. It also depends on what size pipe you use. Obviously if you use 3" pipe over 2.5", your clearance will be less. If you are not lowered, do not worry about it one bit.
