Power steering is dead!

Well I went to the movies last night and when I leaving no power steering! so I got home and parked it but I am just going to redo the whole from steering. I was thinking about Rack and Pionion has anyone ever do this in a third gen I hear it is much lighter would it be worth trying to grab one from the junkyard and trasfering my steering over?

I am going to go look at the junkyard and see how they are mounted and what not but I think I could pick on up for cheap at the yard.

Yea they are pretty expensive even for the remans we sell at work they are about 100-150 for a reman.

to retrofit one on your car you may save a couple pounds, but it will drive much different, and cost an arm and a leg

blue89vert 03-30-2006 04:08 PM

i say just fix what you have, it probably wouldn't be worth it

Knuckle_Breaker ver.2.0 04-12-2006 05:45 AM

why dont you just fix it for now, and if your really wanna redo your whole steering system then get all the parts first so that at least while your planning it out your not stuck w/o a camaro to drive.cant cost too much to fix if you go to any local pick n pull and/or junkyard.

the only line broke was a 2 inch peice of like tran cooler line on the return side so I replaced that and I replaced the high side also and I have it running again I think I need a new pump cause in the mornings whan I crank it, it has bearing nosie but once it warms up its ok
