question about 305s

Dose anyone know if there are like vortec heads for a 305 or any type of better flowing heads for a 305?

Yup. They do make a GM vortec for that engine. Summit sells them, as do alot of other retailers:

However, I'm sure you could do better with GM fast burns, trick flows, etc.

if your gonna buy new heads you could just buy a used 350 and drop that in instead of modding a not so well designed engine (performance wise) thats just my opinion and what i plan on doing when i can find the right car.

I always thought about taking a Stock 400sb head and putting it on a 350. but prob work on a 305... they have Larger Valves.. and dont cost as much as aftermarket stuff.

the 400 heads suck on the 305, it kills the torque, and lowers compression some too (just what the 305 needs is less power)

yep, the other issue is sealing the 400 chamber is bigger than the 305 (over .090 if memory serves) so part of it is not gasketed

an engine swap would still be much easier than pulling the 305 and rebuilding it
