Question about governer on my Camaro

i have a 94 camaro coupe and was wondering if 110 miles per hour(what it shows on the speedometer) is the limit of the car. Can it go faster? It seems it would go faster than that. Also, does the car really shut off at that speed?I hate rumors...like I said it is a 94 green camaro coupe with 82,000 miles on it with NO MODS. it is a 3.4 liter.thanks!@!

I dont think youll get much above 110 with no mods... Secondly, I dont think the car actually shuts off, I think the engine shuts down until it gets back down under the governer... but yes, it does back you down. Im not speaking from experience, just what Ive heard, so dont quote me on it.

thanks. I dont plan on doing these speeds, really. Just curious.

Now here's a question I can help out with.

I use to own a 3.4 M5 1994 Camaro back in the day and I went to see how fast I could go in it. According to the speedo the limiter is at 105, once I hit 105mph my engine actually shut off but I think it's because it cut the fuel so I couldn't keep going faster but it was enough to kill the engine. So all I did was restart it and take the next couple of miles to slow down.

the governor is set at 105, the real top speed of an f body (from wind resistance not engine) is around 125 (keep in mind the new vette is the fastest one ever and can't do 200 becasue of aerodynamics) it's supposed to cut timing and fuel to slow you down, it shouldn't kill the engine completely

Camaro95V6 02-04-2006 09:17 PM

mine is set at 115. i had a some rpms left when it got to it. i'm sure they'll do 125 without the limiter.

My engine actually shut off but I just think it's from cutting the fuel. I think it was just enough to make the engine die.

thats crazy i was always wondering that cause i got pretty close to it but at like 110 i had to start slowing down cause i was running out of road.

NoRiceInside 02-05-2006 02:38 AM

on my 3.4 i had it at the speed limiter (although the gauge was maxed out) and my engine just stayed at a steady RPM...no stalling.

that's how the ones I've been in did. My sunbird shut down (it got real quiet) but as soon as th speed dropped it took off

3rd gens with a 350 and a 2.72 or 2.73 gear i dont remember which could go 140 without a limiter. my cousins 84 trans am could

top speed was aero limited to 120 mph. Don't believe your factory speedo, at anything over 70MOH it's a guesstimate at best

blue89vert 02-16-2006 05:51 PM

actually i saw that on the old video of the reveiling of the 87 irocs

and when motor trend did a top speed test they couldn't get them that fast (the vette of that era could only muster about 150)
