Question about Optispark
I took off my optispark today because i had a problem with it..... and i found out that when i had the cap and rotor replaced a year ago i got the vented type cap and didnt know it......I got a 94 lt1 so i need to know from u guys will that cap work on my lt1 i had problems every since then so i dont know:confused: ........please help also do anybody know where i can get the socket for the distributor? thanx

my only guess is that the vent in the side of the cap wasnt blocked off and **** got inside and ****** it up...thats the only thing i could see happening...

while im at it i could get a new cam and lifters.......any suggestions?

actually to properly convert your opti you need to convert the cam :)

what is opti spark. i probly sound dumb to you but is there another name for it or is itjust not clickin in my head.

optispark is the front mount distributor on all LT1s.

well its called and optispark because the cam sensor is an optical sensor and it determines timing within itself.

could i use a vented type cap and just plug the hole? i dont think there will be a problem:confused:

The main problem is with the opti is has to run all the high voltage thru it which only contributes to it going bad.
If you want to really eliminate the problem with the opti, check out a Delteq system. It will eliminate the voltage going thru the opti and thus will increase the life tremendously. Also by going this route you don't need an aftermarket ignition system which will also save you some dough. |
