Rear End, Trans on V6

Anyway, I have the '94 V6 Camaro and thinking of different outcomes and possibilities with dropping in an 8 cylinder. Would anyone happen to know if the V6 Camaro came with the same rear end and trans as the z28 or will I have to get a new trans, engine mounts, rear end, shocks and springs if I put an 8 in? So basically just wondering what on the V6 is compatible when the v8 gets put in or is there an endless list of swaps to be done. Because if this is the case I might just head down the road of the turbo or supercharger.

No, the rear end is completely different. Not only is it built to hold less horsepower, its an open carrier instead of a LSD.

The rear end would not 'have' to be changed when you did the swap, because it would work. BUT, chances are it would not last long.

i think you should just look for a turbo or supercharger or buy an 8

No... I would agree with him.

I'd just sell the 6 and buy an 8.

that's what I'm thinking, it would be a project but it will be worth it. Because I'll end up having to get a new transmission either way

Believe what everyone is telling you- swapping over to a V8 is something that a lot of people talk about, very few actually go thru with. And typically the ones that do end up saying "Boy, I guess I should have listened to you guys, it was a lot harder and a bigger pain in the *** than I thought..."

ITSA6 05-29-2007 04:21 PM

joking i am not i have looked into it also and i have seen the greener grass by not doing the swap

I ended up loving my car too much to buy another, so I just fixed up my 6 ;)

As I said before, I recommend just selling the car you have, and buy a z28 or an SS. The cost is going to be relatively similar, and ton less problems and hassles.

Yes unless you have a lot of money and time, Just selling your 6 and getting a 8 would be cheaper. I thought about doing a swap in the v6 I used to own but I would have been way over my head. It was a lot cheaper trading it in for my formula.

yea pretty much everyone on here who has a 6 has talked about doing a swap but if u really look into all the work and mainly all the money involved it would save alot of time and money just to buy an 8

My thoughts exactly.

Or you could be like me, and dump 2-3x the amount of buying a v8 into a v6 and make it barely beat a bolt-on v8 :lolsign:

yah, everyone I have talked to has just said to sell the car, buy a z28 and modify that engine if needed. It will just be a sad thing to do once you've become attached to the one you own.
