Rebuild

as you all know i have the 3.4 V6 in my camaro. last week i just rolled over 121,000 miles. i was wondering how hard it is to rebuild a motor. i am seventeen and would like to try this basically on my own but what all does it take to do it? and what's a cost figure like?

1hottcamaro 11-11-2006 12:03 PM

i dont really know, but my guess would be its not even worth the time and money for a 3.4 v6. just my opinion

ITSA6 11-11-2006 12:03 PM

yeah i just i dunno i have done some mods to this car and it's my first camaro and i was just wondering if i could keep it for a resonable price

Honestly depending on the value of your car right now, Im gonna guess its not even gonna be worth it since how old the car is. Its gonna be $$$, which imo wouldnt be worth it. Drop an 8 in it, and then it would be worth it.

LT1? from a 94 is really easy i looked it up a while ago

rebuilding an engine is really easy. but 121k is not that high a mileage anymore (ttodays engines are designed for 200 to 300k miles)

They will only go that long if they are properly taken care of. If the previous person always did full throttle starts right out of the garage and didn't let the motor warm up at all, or didn't do proper maintenance its entirely possible that the motor is getting loose.

To rebuild the motor properly with everything that should probably be replaced, figure at least $1500- and thats using stock parts. Its not cheap to rebuild, but cheaper than trying to buy a car for that price. If you are serious about it, save your money and either buy a wrecked Z that still runs and transfer everything over or just go buy a 94 Z. You can get into one a pretty decent one for around 5 these days. Thats honestly the route I would take. Swapping from V6 to V8 is alot more work than people think.

Yep. Cost me 2200 parts alone to completely rebuild my engine. (3.8, but not much difference)

dunno what i will do and sure arch today's engines can go to 200 or 300 thousand miles but mine is also twelve years old

archemedes 11-11-2006 07:33 PM

when I say today I mean newer than about '88

ITSA6 11-12-2006 03:01 AM

camaro94 11-14-2006 08:42 PM

Get ready for a ton of work Danielle. I didnt know what I was getting myself into with my 3.8

Its ridiculous how much harder they are to work on than the 8's... I thought they would be easier because of more room... boy was I wrong.

ITSA6 11-15-2006 02:45 AM

agreed gray the older 8 is much simpler to me i would so much rather work on the malibu than my 3.4
