rumbling noise?

ok, today after work i started my car up and all, and i hear a little rumbling type noise... i put it into reverse and it gets louder... then nuetral, it quites down a bit and in drive it gets a bit louder again. its kinda goes away once u get going, but i have no clue what it is... anyone have a guess?

archemedes 02-24-2005 10:03 PM

probably trans related, but could be a bad bearing on an accessory (different gears give different loads)

Dcalado_ 02-24-2005 10:05 PM

yea, it sounds like the same noise my dads car makes, the trans axle bearings are shot on that thing

archemedes 02-24-2005 10:07 PM

gotta listen and see what area it actually comes from a mechanics stethescope would be very helpful

Dcalado_ 02-24-2005 10:12 PM

yea im gunna take it upto my school and take a listen up there, but its got me worried...

archemedes 02-24-2005 10:14 PM

noises like that are never good hope it's easy

Dcalado_ 02-24-2005 11:49 PM

ok , well i think its just somthing hitting up against the body or fender of the car because the noise can only be heard when ur inside the car and not outside... i remeber my rear shocks were rusted out( the top part.. it might have broke off and is ratteling but ill have to take the tires off to check

archemedes 02-25-2005 11:52 PM

get the shocks replaced your a crash looking for a place to happen not to mention the wear on the springs and tires

My car also makes a noise like a rumbling bearing or something. It used to only make it when you started the car but now it does it all the time and my car has been running like crap lately. So when you find out what it is let me know cause like it effects the RPM it will drop from like 1200RPM down to like 600RPM it just keeps bouncing back and fourth between that RPM so I am worried that one day its going to quit when I am on my to work or something!! :lolsign: Would'nt be the first time :banghead:

Dcalado_ 02-26-2005 06:47 PM

lol mine makes the noise when i start up... but then it goes way.. and comes back when i hit bumps or anything, but it doesnt make the noise anymore when i put it into gear like i said before. My RPM's tend to jump around a bit to.. between 600-800 but i dont know if its anything wrong because its always done that.. anyways what kind of shocks do u think i should get? im not to sure which ones are good and which are not so i could use some adive on that

Camarocam 02-27-2005 12:46 PM

I am not real sure but I think the KYB's are pretty good. wait for someone else to post also.

archemedes 02-27-2005 10:27 PM
