SES light flashes
 

well lately my car has been idling like crap. drives ok, except in low rpm 1st gear, it hesitates a bit. but overall not bad driving. it just has a horrible time idling in traffic. so today my check engine light finally came on. it actually started flashing.

i recall that means something, like its running rich or missfiring. it ended up staying lit and i scanned a P0301. which as we all know...missfire #1. i pulled that plug and its fouled bad and was gapped at .060. i regapped it to .045 and its better but still bad. just turned 75000 miles yesterday so i guess its time...

anyway can anyone help me remember what the flashing SES light means? it was running at the time...

Just means missfire. No big deal, time for a tune up.

SES on means the error occurred and has not been reset. flashing means the error just occurred. If SESis on and then flashes, you just threw another code, whether it's a different code as previous, or the same.
Mine is on almost all the time, since it's first summer. Dealer gave me bs about I'm not supposed to use premium gas in my LS1 Hawk, so I generally ignore it until the performance acts up.
SES can ventually reset by a certain number of engine starts, or number of minutes or hours driving, etc.

Have you tried running seafoam, through your gas tank? How about in your oil? If you do, be careful not to squeal the tires in front of the po-po.

Technically speaking, a flashing check engine light means to pull over and have the car towed to a repair facility.
It is caused by a severe misfire that is catalyst damaging.
If you dont have a cat/cats on your car, it wont do any major damage.
If you have cats it can destroy them rather quick.
Check your wires for cracks, especially where they are close to the exhaust manifold.

thats it! it was for a catalyst damaging misfire. well since then ive used this lucas oil stabilizer and lucas fuel treatment. gawd damn it works. idles smooth as hell now. my light came back on last night. it hasnt flashed at all though. i gotta get to work and check it. im pretty sure its just going to be another P0301. i really dont wanna do a tune up. i was going to wait til i did headers. it would probably be easier. lol.
