super sport

Alright, Lastnight a kid from my school was trying to tell me that Chevy stopped making the SS for a period of time.. Because one of my teachers has a SS and I said it was a 98 and that kid tried telling me that they didn't make SS's in 98 that the teachers car was a 01.. From what I know I thought that the SS's were always made, they Z28 is the thing that they stopped for a while.. So am I right? Pretty sure I am..

Also is there a car called the Iroc Z28? For some reason I always thought the Z28 and the Iroc were 2 different cars, I didn't think they were the same.. Because he was tryin to tell me that he knows someone that has a Iroc Z28 so the Z28 couldn't of stopped being made for a while..

Yes. I have a IROC Z28. There was the IROC, then there was a the "Z28" package. And i do believe they stopped making the SS's in the 80's then came back with them in the 90's. Someone correct me if i am wrong but i think that is how it goes.

There was no SS 3rd gens. In fact the SS badge didn't reapper until 96. So the first part of the 4ths didn't either. But from 96-02 it was here so your friend is a moron.

they stopped SS's a few years into the 70's. all year third gen from 82-92, could be a z-28 then in 85 i beleive they brought the IROC and if im not mistaken the IROC was an option on the z-28's then in 91 they dropped it and from 91-92 the last 2 years for third gens, they only had the z-28s no IROC's.

But then he was trying to tell me that their were SS's but there wasnt a true SS.. I dont know what he was talking about.. He was just sayin like that they didn't have the hurst shifters or something..

well from the book you and i both have derek, the ss was made from 67-69, then they stopped it until 96-02. the IROC was an option for all Z28s so if its an IROC its an IROC-Z.

In the early 70's the SS was still in production.

THe SS was made till 72ish i believe from 69 - 72, then it was made again in 96 and continute till 02. so there was along period of time of just z28s and camaros. THe IrocZ and Z28 were diffrent for awhile there wasnt a Z28 just the Iroc and v6erz. Serch the productions numbers of these cars on the main page man.

ss ended in '73 with the demise of the bigblock came back as an aftermarket retrofit by slp

archemedes 12-22-2004 11:22 PM

z28 was discontinued in '74 came back in '77 (maybe '76) there was never a '75 z made though

So what was the performance Camaro called in the mid 70's?

archemedes 12-22-2004 11:28 PM

um performance and mid 70's um yeah that almost existed, the 350 put out 175 hp the type lt was the "top" line '75

FamousZ 12-23-2004 09:42 AM

In 76 the 3 different Camaros were the base sport coupe, RS, and the LT. So there was no big Z28 or SS in that year.. And 75 is the same way.. In 74 there was only the base sports coupe and the LT. 73 had the base sport coupe LT and the Z28.. So the Z28 stopped after 73 and came back in 77.

The SS stoped after its 72 year and came back in 96 like everyone else said. The first time in 24 years the SS name was on the Camaro, SLP and GM only produced 2,410 SS's in 96.
