Supercharger

hey, i have a 1998 3.8L. and i want to do a big horsepower increase. i was wondering what about a supercharger? has anyone done it? does it work? easy to instal? please respond.
thanks

it's been done, requires fabrication, and tuning.Keep in mind with more engine hp the more likely other parts are to break.Easiest and cheapest way to get more power is nitrous

yeah but i want power all the time. im either going to do a v-8 swap, or supercharger,(most likley v-8) but i was just trying to get some info on putting a supercharger on it.

v8 swap is about the same work, and a little more cost (gotta change the trans and cooling with a motor swap)

There's almost always the powerdyne kit for sale used so just search for that. It seems to get most 3.8's in the low to mid 13's.

Whats the real difference between turbo and supercharging? ... I kinda want to do this 2, that force-fed 3.8 turbo looks pretty sweet. Would a guy who knows how to do most external engine work be able to put it on? ... If not, how much would a shop charge to throw it on there?

Does it decrease gas mileage? And what excatly is all this psi stuff? I know its difference in boost, but what does it mean? More the better/faster, but harder on the engine?

archemedes 08-09-2005 08:46 PM

the difference in turbo and super is basically a turbo charger runs off the exhaust, a supercharger runs off a belt on the crank, which is better depends on who you ask. Does milage decrease, yes. PSI is the amount of extra pressure teh unit is generating filling the cylinders the higher the more air in the cylinder

superchargers are pretty easy to install IMO (yes i have done a supercharger install, 2 actually). You'll get more out of a turbo than the lame powerdyne supercharger though.
