ticking/whining sound

im not sure what this noise is coming from, first i thought it was coming from the back of the intake manifold, then i thought it was the distributor.. then i just plain didnt know. there is a rubber hose going into the vavle cover (drivers side) and when it makes the noise i can feel it when i touch this hose. Also. the noise is only made when its not idleing in park because i could not hear it from inside my car i dont know if it makes it in drive or anything. anyone have a clue what this could be? any help is appreciated

whining sound is usually an accessory bearing the ticking could be a lifter, or a common thing is injectors tick when dirty (some are also just loud)

Whining you got a blower!!! :lolsign:

archemedes 04-19-2005 01:23 PM

or gear drive

so its ticking & whining?

Dcalado_ 04-19-2005 02:27 PM

yea kinda of a ticking whine if that makes sence coming from the distributor/ bac of the intake man. i cant pin point it cuz there is to many other noise's like my exhaust manifolds are leaking again, and there is a rattly coming from either the AC compressor or p/s pump almost sounds like a loose bolt.. found these out last nite but it was to dark to work

Camarocam 04-19-2005 10:14 PM

Is you vac advance on the dis. lecking or the vac tip or main hose comes out of the back of the manifold by the dis

JesasaurusRex 04-20-2005 12:08 AM

id pull the distributor just to make sure that the gears arent getting destroyed by the cam gear just to rule that out. Can cause some serious damage if thats the case. Might be some loose rockers if its ticking, the whining if i would have to guess id say the distrubuter and cam gears meshing and like i said just to be sure id pull it.

ok, how its not hard to pull the dis. is it? iv never done it on the car so i wouldnt know.. there is a small vaccum line (one of those fairly small hard plastic lines) that melted it goes to that area im fixing that 2mrw prob i just have to get a piece of rubber hose to fit over n get attached where it melted and a section is missing could this be the problem?

JesasaurusRex 04-20-2005 01:04 AM

Loosen the bolt/stud to the hold down clip and pull straight up. MAKE SURE you put it back in the exact same way it cam out. So pull the cap first and note which way the rotor is pointing. As for the 2mrw or what ever you said i have no idea what that is and if your distributor has a vacume advance and the hose is melted and NOT holding vacume then itll mess up your timing but i dont see why it would be clicking (then again maybe it advanced it way to much, i donno i dont mess with vacume advacne distributors, and what you are hearing is detonation and that would not be fun at all) but ya never know so just replace the hose and who knows maybe everything fixes itself.

If the plastic hose is melted that is where you sucking noise is coming from plug one side of the hose the one that goes into the intake and you car wil most likally idel better and the sucking noise should stop unless there is another leak somewhere else
