Tire help!
Okay, Im rotating my tires right now, and Im getting really confused...I was going by this diagram:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testin...e-Rotation.jpg But then I realized the pattern that the tires says they should rotate would be going the wrong way... Ex. It says to rotate clockwise, and they would be rotating counter-clockwise. I just talked to my friend, and he said my tires were radials, so Im not supposed to rotate them normally... He said you move the rears to the front and the fronts to the rear. Any help guys? TIA. |
Directional Tires can only be rotated front to back. So yes put the front on the back and the back on the front. But do not make them spin in the wrong direction you will kill the tread
|
I have always did mine from front to back and back to front
|
anyone know the torque specs?
|
just torque to 100 lbs
|
yah do what everybody else said
|
yea just front to back and vice versa i did the same thing with my tires onces and then they were wearing fast and i took them back to the tire shop and he said i had them on going the wrong direction, yea i felt like an idiot but i learned something new lol

If you have uni-directional tires move the front to back and criss-cross the back to the front. That way all tires will see every spot on the car.
But like was already said, directionals only front to back. When putting the lugnuts on the car make sure that you torque them in a star sequence... |
Yeah, thanks guys. I think they got torqued to 85. I remebered 90 from shop class, but I wasnt sure... And I read 100 is too much, and some people were striping their lugs, and I didnt want that. I guess I never knew that about radials, but now I do. It makes sense also... Im just glad I happened to see the little directional arrow on the tire as I was putting it on which made me think about it. Anyways, thanks for the help guys. :)

From my auto Tech class we were told to torque them to 100, we looked it up to make sure and the book said 100 for 95% of the vehicvle, unlike the Geo's where it was like 45-50 i beleive...
