I'm droppin a 700bhp LS2 in my 99 camaro w/ a moser 12 bolt. What is the best tranny app to put the power to the road.

Thanks

Well WTF do you want a 6 speed or an auto?

c dub0643 03-14-2006 02:28 PM

I love the six speed that's in it but the T-56 is only good to about 450 horse. I'm willing to sacrifice my love for manuals if an auto would be the best transmission for putting all that power onto the pavement.

If you want to keep the six speed there's a lot of shops that'll rebuild them with Viper internals so they'll uphold the extra power. That's what I'd do if my car ever made that kind of power.

That sounds nice in theory but it would have to be a bit stronger than a Viper T-56 which starts tearing itself apart at about 650 horses. Good try though ;)

They put other parts in there as well to strengthen it, there wouldn't by six speed cars running single digits in the quarter if all they had was stock production parts.

auto I know u might be able to use the 4l65e or 4l80e truck trannys.....

or like they said they can make diffrent stage t-56s i believe

Put a built TH400 in there. They can be built to take just about anything you can throw at it.

Agreed

If you are dropping a 700 horse motor you better pray your 12 bolt is built tough enough too, along with your driveshaft, u-joints, pinions, and everything else from the crank pulley to the rear-diff cover.

I have seen a 6-speed car run almost a 10 flat at 140mph. That car is a convertible with a 4100lb curb weight w/driver. So obviously the tranny can be tough enough for what you need.

Which ever way you go expect to pay a couple thousand to have it built though...

Good luck.

powerglide, lenco (gotta love individual shifters for each gear) and a good trans builder. I hear from guys who have spent tons on the t56 to have them grenade and they went to auto too many times to even think of one of them. I also agree the 12 bolt probably won't hold (dana 44 or ford 9IN will)

blue89vert 03-14-2006 10:01 PM

i always thought a moser 12 bolt would be an equivalent to a ford 9"

still based on the gm design wich has some inherent weakness the dana's are supposedly stronger (they were used in the hemi cars, and dump trucks), but harder to work with
