Waterpump

My waterpump went out and took the distributor with it.

Anyways, thats getting fixed tomorrow but my question is: Should I try to go with an electric water pump or is it not that big of a deal to worry about? The car is my daily driver and I don't really plan on taking it to the track much.

Thanks.

Just get the regular pump, I beleive the last time i looked when i was at work (advance auto) the water pump for a lt1 was $138.88 for a new ASC water pump part number WP9002

yeah dont waste money on an electric water pump. the stock one is plenty efficient.

i wouldnt waste the money on an electric pump its just making somehing more complicated than it needs to be

If you are looking for a few extra ponies, then I would go with a electric WP. On a LT1 it is a proven 8HP I have heard. That and it enables you to run a true double roller timing set like a cloyes. It is only around $20 more and is plenty reliable. I had one on my old Silverado, and I plan on having one on my Z28 very soon.

get a reman water pump for 50 bucks or something. i know mine looked brand new and it obviously worked fine cause i had it in there till i wrecked and the same pump is being used on the same motor still in a different car. it was somewhere around 50 bucks i think.

most electric pumps say not for continuous street use, and I have not seen any real back to back dyno tests showing 8 hp usually it's 1% or so since they make the alternator work harder which lowers voltage

blue89vert 03-08-2006 05:32 PM

get a regular one, i don't think you can really have an electric wp on a daily driver.
hey bernotas isn't that a little expensive? I got mine from auto zone for about 50 and it had a lifetime warranty

Most of them are cheap that we sell but for some reason the one i looked up for the lt1 was pretty expensive, we do cardone reman's but im not sure what the price was for it.

i would just not think that an electric one would be as reliable especially not ever day just because there are more things to go wrong and i hate pulling a bunch of voltage on stuff that my alternator cant handle it was like that it my last car and it was a pain.

exactly

I say go for it. On average you will gain 8-10 RWHP (you will notice that) and their not as unreliable as people may make you think. Summit makes one for street use and they promise at least 10,000 hours of use before it dies. Plus their very easy to change, if it does break a couple of hand tools is all you will need to change the pump.

I ended up just going with the regular stock one, not really because I wanted one or the other but just because it woulda taken time to order/ship the electric one.

FORCE_FED_Z 03-10-2006 04:58 PM

Time to order/ship?? Every single Summit order I have placed has always come the next day, and thats without upgrading the shipping...

you've been lucky. When in MI it took a week for summit to get my orders, jegs took 1-2 days depending on time of day
