Wich will give more power?

wich would i get more power from if i get shorty headers an a bigger y-pipe and then a american thunder exhaust, or if i get long tubes and then take pipes outa them with 2 cherry bomb glasspacks and tips out the side. wich would be more performance giving?

paarman97maro 03-19-2008 07:21 AM

I guess I dont understand what follows each.. but longtubes will give you more power. And a muffler is going to make that complete giving you better backpressure. glasspacks are going to sound like **** imo.

Phate 03-19-2008 08:34 AM

Please dont do glasspacks. You're going to sound redneck.

archemedes 03-19-2008 12:22 PM

the power difference would be more dependent on the headers than the mufflers anyway, long tubes tend to give more performance, but fit is an issue

91z 2 8 03-19-2008 03:31 PM

yea i heard about fitment being a issue but this would happen till i have the money anyways but my dad said taht putting glasspacks after the headers on a v8 sounds really good so thats y i was thinking about useing them and cause their small and would be easier to hang up

Im not going to say your father is wrong, but the concencus of this site would agree with me. Glasspacks sound AWFUL.

If anything, get long tubes, a Mufflex y-pipe and a good catback. you are nowhere near making enough HP to need true duals.

Karps TA 03-19-2008 07:29 PM

Glasspacks are an old school thing that was popular before people had a choice of actually having a performance exhaust system that sounded good.

On a similar note I wouldn't suggest looking for a 3/4 race cam either which I'm sure would be the next mod he'd offer up. lol

ight well im looking for it to be really really loud tho thats the thing an its not gonna be driven much since gas is so high so do u guys have any sugestions of what headers an y-pipes an exhaust i should buy? also i was wondering how good or the 305s on nos? :D

paarman97maro 03-19-2008 11:39 PM

Get a real catback system if you want loud. Im not sure what sounds good on 3rd gens, but someone will chime in. Dont do glasspacks... my dad is the same way, he had a 72 bronco that he had them on, so he thinks they sound ... Its the only option they had when they were younger :)

91z 2 8 03-20-2008 07:03 AM

im actully now thinking about headers y-pipe cat back an a cut out to be really loud when i want.
but i cant find good cheap headers do u guys know of any diff places besides ebay an summit ect?

paarman97maro 03-20-2008 07:24 AM

Loud is not always better, but im sure one of the 3rd gen guys will hook you up with a good exhaust system. As per running nitrous (nos is actually "Nitrous Oxide Systems" which is a company, it doesnt mean nitrous) it depends on the condition of the motor, and your dedication and money situation. Use the search tool, i've written multiple nitrous writeups.

91z 2 8 03-20-2008 03:08 PM

well the eingine is really good it only has 61xxx miles and runs great. an yea i know that nos is the company i jsut think its easier then sayin nitrous + i cant spell. so im also wondering about the speed limiter on camaros do u guys know what it is so i know what not to hit.

Karps TA 03-20-2008 03:56 PM

Here's a thread on thirdgen.org that has a bunch of different sound clips on various exhaust setups. Can give you some ideas.

Loud get's old real fast. Not too mention it draws alot of attention, and not always the good kind. Not too mention it doesn't make it real easy to come home late at night, when you're trying to sneak home on your parents.
