Yet another exhaust thread...

Hey... i'm new here. I've got a 94 3.4 camaro and i'm in need of replacing my exhaust system from the cat itself back. I already have a magnaflow cat (not installed yet) and now i need to change the rest (not including headers). I was really about to go to the summit warehouse and buy the flowmaster catback. Then, I came here and everyone seems to hate it. I've listened/watched all the videos and clips. Yes, flowmaster sounds raspy (which i hate) and didn't realize it before. Magnaflow really doesn't have the "loudness" or throaty sound i'm trying to get (at least from the videos/clips i've seen). I like a DEEP aggressive sounding exhaust. I dont care if its loud. I just dont want rasp. To be completely honest, my stock exhaust sounds more aggressive than any video i've seen for magnaflow. My muffler has a baffle loose (yes... really). When idling, it has a deep rumble and doesn't rasp when driving (only high revs when parked). It just isn't loud.

I understand SLP has the LM, but i can't find any for the 3.4... but then again from what i've seen, it doesn't sound like LM's are very deep at all. I saw the TSP rumbler and it shows as not compatible for the 94 3.4l.

My cat developed a LOUD rattle a few months ago so i'm changing that with the magnaflow cat which i already have. My muffler (stock) has the broken baffle and it sounds like its backfiring when you rev it. I'm looking for a deep, throaty as possible catback. I honestly have always loved flowmaster, but it seems everyone on the net turns away from it (for the v6).

Any opinions??? TIA

EDIT: Just to put it on here since i dont have a sig yet, the car has 70k miles. The only thing that isn't stock is the battery which was changed before i bought the car. Everything else is completely original.

Im not real big on knowing exhausts or anything technical about cars just basic stuff but i have same engine and replaced my muffler with a dynomax super turbo...it gave it some what of a rumble but not much...i would probably get more if i changed my catback also. I have always liked flowmaster though.

First of all, your stock exhaust does not sound better than an aftermarket exhaust, i can tell you now. Clips never sound like in person. Listen to my clip once, and I can garuntee that my magnaflow with headers will sound better than your stock 3.4.

And yes they do make a LM for the 3.4. camaro94 has it on her car, and Ive heard it in person, and its deep as hell at low rpms.

Lastly, you will not eliminate rasp from a v6 unless you do very heavy modding, and you will never have an exhaust that sounds like an 8 cylinder.

Paarman is right, you will never get rid of the rasp from these cars no matter what exhaust you have unless you have LOTS of mods. I have Flowmaster and I love it. Its my second Flowmaster exhaust system, I had one on my first Camaro too.

I know not too many people on here like Flowmaster, but from my personal experience, I really like it and get A LOT of compliments from people.

Here is a sound clip of mine, its not great quality but you get the idea. :)

FYI, I have Pacesetter headers and Catco cat too.

oh yeah, heres the clip of mine I forgot to post:

But like I said, the sound on clips is not really near what it sounds like in person.

(Sorry for using myspace video Chad.. but for the sake of sound accuracy, I had to use them for this thread :D )

You can buy the Loudmouth for a 3.4L, you just buy the regular one, with an adapter kit. You will never eliminate rasp at high RPM'S no matter which exhaust you go with on the V6. SLP is now making a Loudmouth 2, which is supposed to have reduced the rasp of the old LM considerably, which I'll be updating my exhaust with next spring. This place sells them and the adapter kit. http://www.ftpp.net/V6/Exhaust/v6_catback_systems.htm

im most likely gonna replace my entire exhaust from catback to the tips....i will most likely keep the same tips tho :D

yea people always wanna get that "v8 sound" but thats not gonna happen cause u have a v6 lol but i have a flowmaster on my car and it sounds really good in my opinion, it doesnt sound like a v8 but i wasnt even trying for that cause i know its gonna happen but it sounds way better than stock and it gives it a little rumble

crysalis 07-12-2006 06:08 PM

hey guys... thanks for the replies.

I definitely understand a v6 will always have rasp. I'm a v8 guy... just dont have the money right now for one. I've got a 350 and 396 in the garage, but can't afford the insurance or gas on them right now.

Anyways, basically i just want as little rasp as possible. And i also definitely understand that things sound different in person (i'm a sound engineer). I'm really just trying to stay away from a "ricer" sound. I'm an all out chevy guy... i can't stand rice which is why i'm trying to be very cautious not to sound like rice.

Its still between flowmaster, magnaflow and SLP.

BlackOnBlue93 07-12-2006 06:19 PM

WTH is "ricer"?

camaro94 07-12-2006 06:20 PM

I think the magnaflows have a nice tone if you don't want ungodly loudness. However, if you do like ungodly loudness when you get in it, the LM is a good choice, and it sounds great at lower RPMs.

crysalis: Did you see my post on CamaroZ28.com about the Cherry Bomb Turbo II muffler? That worked good for me, but is not loud enough IMO, but others say it is quite loud. I plan on getting an original straight through Cherry Bomb this winter, hopefully that will be a lil louder.
