Adopting a Greyhound...

has anyone here ever adopted a Greyhound, or known someone that has? I'm think sometime in the next couple of years when we get in the new house, and fence off the yard, of adopting a former race Greyhound.

My parent's neighbor's have two greyhounds. No offense but they're ugly and not only that they're not fun to pet since there's no fur and all you feel is bone. I like my parent's golden retreiver.

yea they are ugly, get a english bulldog, they are the best.

greyhounds are energetic so they need alot of room. Check the akc site it has a ton of info on them

I have adopted two greyhounds in the past from the track in Kenosha. They are very cool dogs to have. Few things to consider though. They do run really fast, not just outside but in the house too. They have never been in a home before so everything is new to them. Stairs are a challenge but mine took two steps and were up them. It is funny when the phone rings the first time. They are very clean dogs. Don't shead. No dander. This was important to us cause my son has asthma. You will have to have a large fenced yard. Fence will have to be 6 ft. They go out, run for 20 mins. and then just run into the create andsit most of the day. Don't bark too much. Adopting them is like trying to adopt kids. Lots of paperwork and if for some reason you can't keep them they have to go back to where you got them. You need references. Now we had to give ours back when we had our new house built. We had no where to keep them at the time. Broke my kids hearts. So being the good Dad, I actually found a better dog to get. It is an Italian Greyhound.
They are about 8-20 lbs. They look like a mini greyhound. Are just as fast if not faster. Same character as a greyhound. We got ours from a breader in south dakota. He flew into o'hare airport and we picked him up. He was $700 shipped and has all his papers. He is a show quality dog but we don't show him. If you are interested I can give you more info on either ones.

Thanks for the info on the adopting part, that's all I really need to know about. I am already well aquainted with the demeanor, tendencies, how fast they are, what you need for them, etc., etc. cause I've been around Greyhounds, and have dealt with my own Italian Greyhound (for 12 years)(who, thank god, has become pudgy and slower now in her old age). ;) Its mostly the adoption process that I was most interested in.

I love Greyhounds, and always have. We go frequently to the track to watch, them been going with my dad since I was about 8 or so. I love how greyhounds look and they are one of my favorite dogs, along with Dobermans, Min Pins, and Bull Terriers. Golden Retrievers are one my least fave dogs ever. I don't like most long hair dogs that much at all.
