thanx. I'm a little more calm now then when I posted. I really just need some labor advice. if anyone knows about these things, like maybe you work in an HR dept for another company or something, and you have info that would help. I'd be very grateful!

Simon.

man, i know where you’re coming from. For about a year i worked at a company that progressively treated people worse and worse. The money was ok, it paid for the toys but all of a sudden new policies were in place and then im working 14 hours no breaks.... going home to sleep and getting a call 30 minutes later to come back in and work again.
Some people at that company slept in the boardroom rather than going home.

They used mis calculate the pay cheques every pay period. I once asked the lady how she can do the accounting for the company when she cant cut cheques properly. She went on to show me all her awards and how special she is, and i pointed out that she still cant count.. never mind that we worked the same hours every week...

Anyways. Don’t quit!!

Contact the labor board. Nothing will immediately happen as it can be upto 3 month wait period. If you can, retain a lawyer. I know you said money is tight but still, that is your best bet. Especially if they’re trying to get rid of you.

Just try to remain calm when dealing with them and stick it to them in the end.

then again if you had just followed the rules and spent about 30 seconds phoning your mangaer like you should have,...... you wouldnt be in a jam.

sounds like you are a poor employee with a bad attitude towards work and the company.

i fire clowns like you every few weeks. if you cant spend less than a minute phoning me you had better be dead.

i mean even in the emerg you have pay phones...

sorry, but you're a dumbass for putting yourself in this situation.

shuller1458 01-18-2006 08:01 PM

I am soory,. I don't have any info. Did you talk to any lawers, my be it is better9 to pay a bit to the lawer, but he will make them pay medical bills and let you stay at the job.

thanx for the advice man. I can admit when I am wrong. its somtimes a little trivial to think about weather my manager thinks I'm home with a cold or with a blown knee. I had medical documentation to back it up as well. I've worked quite long and hard for this company, and on a case by case basis, maybe these are small things, cumulitively, they add up to an unsatisfied employee. Doesn't mean I have a bad attitude to work or the company. and If I have delevoped one after working for so many years and feeling less then a sense of accomplishment, then I guess thats my problem. But please don't assume for a second that you know me.

I was asking for advice, not name calling, but you are entitled to your opinion. this is a public forum, so you have every right to voice it as well.

I disagree. As a manager or supervisor you should have some compassion. The guy has hurt himself to a great extent, not only that he is a long term employee.
I would wager you’re not firing long term employees every week. Not only is that horrible for moral, it creates instability in the work place... so why bullshit?

Its one thing to on some temp who doesn’t care, its another when its long term.

He made an attempt to call, and in my eyes, that would be enough considering the medical proof he has.

Contact a lawyer if you can. Don’t let management push you around.

cheers.

he called me on it tho, I didn't call them back, but it shouldn't be something they can suspend you for. as long as scheduling knew, why should it matter if my manager is in close contact with me? they gonna drive me to my surgery? I don't like havin ppl up my ass like that. especially when I'm not feelin well.

of course i wouldnt fire a long term employee for something like that.
but,
if there is a system in place, as an employee you must follow it. when i am expecting a certain person in for work, their entire day is planned out for them, and if i dont find out that they arent showing up, it really screws up more than one persons work for the day.
i highly doubt that he is the perfect employee... if he was there wouldnt be a problem, but something tells me that there is friction between him and someone higher up, and judging by his "last straw" novel i would suggest that he has been complaining either loudly or quietly to others and word has gotten around that he is not happy with his job. i'm sure that his work has suffered lately as a result, and has more than likely been seen to have been slacking in some way lately. for his boss this non-call may have been the "last straw" and time to teach him a lesson ( i dont agree with the way they did it).
i still think that his lack of respect for his co-workers and supervisor is grounds for some sort of punishment. like i said, it only takes a few seconds to make a phone call. in fact i dont even mind when i get a call that the person was out partying the night before and doesnt feel good, or decided to spend an extra day at the cottage.... as long as i get the call. without the call, you're asking for trouble.

as far as the trouble he got into, i wont comment... because i'm his boss and this may be a conflict of interest :nana:

no seriously you have a beef about the bs after the fact... my only problem is with the phone calls.
