Best anti-virus software
Which Anti-virus you run and which one you think is the best? On resource hog, actual filtering, and catchin of virus and malware ?
I Tried them all Norton 2k5 isn't bad and like the worm virus protection ( which has caught a few times. ) BitDefender seems to be a hog on resources AVG is nice.. ( but doesn't work well cause of stupid license #.. ) Pc-cillin is ok.. seems to slow down system.. but lil worse then norton ( even though people claim that it's not much of a hog as norton is ) Escan 2k3 is sweet.. easiest on resource, and fixes some registry key issue while @ it. I disable the firewall on them as I use zone alarm for that |
Best AV is non at all. jus format your computer when ever it starts to run slow. AV use to much memory.

That would work.. but I have too much stuff.. and my 2 other spare HD are pretty much full right now.. I rather sacrifice some memory to prevent from having to reformat each time if possible.. Thats why I was just curious |
I would never run without an AV software, sure it's great if you format every single drive and never back anything up.. but what if the virus s to your backups, and other drives that u don't format when reinstalling? Exactly, u'r ed as soon as u reinstall and access tho's files again, and u wouldn't even know it because u don't have an AV program installed. Sounds pretty stupid to me!
I personally have stuck with Norton since the DOS/Win3.11 days... it's always served me well. Some say it hogs resources... but I've never seen it be too bad. Or should I say, Its never made my system slow. I guess the only people that complain about stuff like that are the ones with crappy computers. Either way... I say Norton. And for firewalls, Sygate. Zone alarm sucks ass. |
I use Avast! because it's free  it does the job for me...

Notorious.. why is sygate better then ZoneAlarm? Never heard or tried it.. but don't want to look for and try programs if I don't have to .. ( Cause I'm just that damm lazy ) |
Just use Firefox as your browser and u'll be fine. If you must use a AV then use pc-cillin and delete it afterwards. AV use way too much resource, and for the most-part are usless.

For me norton has worked well..
For firewall nothing tops blackice defender. |

Sygate is very powerful and still very easy to use... Sygate Personal is free just like ZA, and u can also get Sygate Pro just like ZA Pro. I find Sygate uses less resouces then ZA, and is much simpler to use. I've been using it for years now, and even tho I've tried many different FW's I always go back to Sygate. Tiny Firewall is IMO probably the best, but it's very hard to setup, so unless u'r a network whizz, and have hours to spend setting up in and out ports don't bother. As for Black Ice... Many say its good... But many more say it's not that good at all since it doesn't block outbound traffic at all, only incoming (just like Windows XP's FW) which is ok if u know you have no malicious software on u'r PC, but if you do get something it'll be able to connect to the internet without u'r knowledge and do whatever it has to, do get around your Black Ice FW. |
