A serious crash in Caledon from earlier in the week has turned even more tragic for a GTA family.

Isabel Di Ceglie, 23, succumbed to her injuries in hospital Saturday night, just days after her 19-year-old sister Vanessa was killed in the same collision. The day of the accident was Isabel's 23rd birthday.

The sisters had been travelling in a Honda Civic when it collided with a transport truck at the intersection of Mayfield and Airport Rds. at about 2:40pm Thursday. The impact was so strong it pushed the vehicle 50 metres up onto a nearby lawn, where a memorial to the fallen duo now sits.

Vanessa died at the scene, while Isabel was transported to St. Michael's Hospital downtown in critical condition. She held on for two days but doctors weren't able to save her.

"They were respectful, they were good girls, they had so much going for them," the girls' aunt, Maria Zenelle said.

"My sister has lost two kids ... not one, two, and we are burying two people. They did everything together, they studied together, they went to school together, so they're going to be together now in heaven."

The truck driver involved wasn't hurt. Police say it's possible charges will be laid in the crash.

Funeral and visitation information for Isabel and Vanessa Diceglie:

why didn't they release the truck drivers name...? to hide the nationality?

judgez24 09-18-2007 10:20 PM

no they wont release a name if he isnt charged with anyone to protect him. if he gets charged then his name wil lbe released. its a terrible thing that happened. and as shitty as it is to say, being a civic they were in, im suprised the cops didnt accuse them of being street racers

"Meanwhile, Caledon OPP say charges are pending against truck driver Gurjant Singh Sidhu, 29, of Etobicoke. However, it could be days, or even weeks, before charges are laid, pending the preliminary and final reports from OPP Central Region collision investigators. "
this can be found on http://www.northpeel.com/news/article/33969

"The dump truck driver, a 28-year-old Etobicoke man, faces two counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Death. He appeared in court for a bail hearing Wednesday. He was not hurt in the crash. "

easy on the truck driver bashing...sure there are the bad apples but the that people actully do to trucks and truck drivers would blow your mind for some reason 99.99999 % of people on the road think that trucks can stop on a dime or swerve to miss like a normal car :nono: .....and then there are the idiots the feel the need to get infront of trucks when approaching a hill and slow down cause they feel the truck will be slow on the uphill......well if the douche bags didnt get infront and slow them down they would make it up a hell of a lot faster

i agree with you on this one. so many people have pressured me because i choose not to pass a truck while its making a right turn. what the hell is the need to squeeze between the curb n them n have to rush becuase the truck is turning and cant see you.. PEOPLE JUST WAIT FOR THE TRUCK TO MAKE ITS TURN THEN PASS!
