Computer Port

Ok what's the port called that'd I use to upload the video's from my camcorder onto the laptop?

I think it's called a firewire but when looking at laptops online which port do I need to look for?
I just want to make sure I get the correct laptop for my video editing.

No it's a firewire connection. I need to know the name of the port.

I think it's - IEEE 1394

blue89vert 10-21-2006 10:40 PM

sorry im lost 100%

sman 10-21-2006 11:16 PM

Yep, IEEE 1394, but remember, there is iLink too, Its kinda a mini firewire, I think most new camcorders use/are switching to that.

archemedes 10-22-2006 12:34 AM

ilink is a propriotory type for one brand, firewire and IEE1394 are the same thing, and are the current standard (but will be going away in a couple of years according to teh CEA)

paarman97maro 10-22-2006 12:40 AM

yeah, look for firewire IEEE 1394

mxracerbrian 10-22-2006 01:06 AM

you already had help but fyi, video camera files cant be sent thru usb

sman 10-22-2006 11:11 AM

Actually they can, thats how I do mine, our video camera doesnt have a firewire cord, only a usb one. It can be done, its just really low quality compared to anything I've seen done with firewire.

Yeah, it actually depends on the camera.

Like Par said it depends on the camcorder. You can't do it via a USB with my camcorder.

sman 10-22-2006 03:41 PM

Lucky you, USB sucks for video.

paarman97maro 10-22-2006 04:30 PM

Yep, its slow for large file transfer. Thats why firewire was made :D

archemedes 10-22-2006 04:44 PM

firewire isn't that much faster though (both methods suck for large transfers)

Yeah, but from a portable device, your options are very limited right now.
