At the time all I have is a bank card (u know the atm card aka debit card) My dad said thats all I need and shouldnt get any credit cards..but why? are they that bad? Someone fill me in Ive never really looked into them in the past.

I have quite a few. Credit cards aren't really bad, it all depends on the responsibilty of the the cardholder. Some people get one and basically thinkk "free money", max the card out and struggle to pay it off. I've never had any problems with mine, and I don't carry a large balance on them, and I don't carry the balance on it for more thatn two moneths unless its an absolute emergency. If you are responsible, you should be OK with one. Just don't charge too much, pay your bills on time(more than the minimum is a good idea), and you should be fine.

It's a good idea to have one available (ever try to rent a car without one?) Keep balances low, if possible pay them off every month, watch for hidden charges (a few compound interest in different ways, or charge a fee if you don't carry a balance) if it has an anual fee you don't need it, there are enough companies who don't charge them out there. I had my best experience with capital one, they had the best customer service out of all the cards I've had.

What debit card do you have? ... I had US Bank for a long time, then they offered me a credit card when I tured 18 and I went for it. It's really nice for emergencies and such. Get one with no monthy or yearly fee. Credit cards are completely safe if you know how to keep them payed off. They also build credit.

My USBank card is cool cuz when I over charge my debit account, it pulls directly from my credit card so I don't get in trouble.

I have a capital one card myself. I've never had any problems whatsoever with Capital One like Arch said. Plus it's cool because you can put your own pictures on them. Mine has a picture of my Camaro on the card.

Just because you get offers in the mail saying your pre approved doesnt mean they will actually give you a card. When I was looking for mine. Pretty much noone but my bank would give me one because I barely had any credit.
