...because I just got hit by a 3 ton truck about 45 minutes ago!!!

And it's only January 2nd!!!

I've seriously been a good boy. I haven't been pulled over by the cops or gotten myself into any trouble, car related, in an entire year! It's a new lap record!

So here's the thing. I need some advice from those who have been hit.

The Accident:

So i'm driving amongst slow traffic in the far right curb lane westbound on Steeles Ave and I was about to take the HWY 410 N on ramp (in Brampton besides Staples) and all of a sudden this 3 ton Ford box truck plows right into my driver's side door!!!! Any harder and I could have been injured!

He was in my blind spot, so I had no warning at all! All I remember is being catapulted away from traffic and into this lady in a Toyota Corolla (or so she claims because I can't remember hitting her, but I know I was definately far enough back from her car).

His excuses: "Your car is black...I didn't see you", "You saw me indicate!"

My retort: "Buddy, I don't care if my car was neon pink! You were in my blind spot so I had no warning! You hit me regardless and I really do feel sorry for you because these car's aren't cheap to fix!"

It looks like I need a new door and a rear bumper and some cosmetic repairs to the left side.

I took down all of his info and that of the woman and didn't call the cops because he didn't want to go through insurance (was that wise??)

He's gonna pay for it and I need to get some quotes now. Any respectable body shops any one of you guys use in Toronto/Brampton?

You know what else is funny? (and you're not going to believe me) As I was pulling out of the parking lot where the info was exchanged...I GOT HIT AGAIN! not even 20 minutes later!!!

this time it was an old lady who backed up into my front bumper because she wanted to let a sidewalk snowplow go by!!! there wasn't any damage, so i cooled my jets and let her go.

I am cursed.

not reporting it can **** you over if u take the guy to court becuz he's a dick and wont pay.The accident was the guys fault at teh time but if u wait the guy can say u hit him etc etc etc... unless u had him write and sign sometihng saying he was at fault and he will take responsiblity of all damage. By the sounds of him he doesnt wanna pay more then he has to anyways so he might pull a fast one cuz uleft the scene. My buddy did the same thing he left the accident but after talkin to me and some other ppl he went the next day and reported it and the guy got charged there was legal documentaion that the accident happened. Its up to you and that guy ,but trust me buddy protect urself cuz that other guy is worried for him and only him. Hope all works for ya bro

He seems willing to pay me, but he didn't want to get the cops involved and didn't want to go through insurance. I just want to get reimbursed for the damage he's caused. I'm calling him tomora.

yup..... prob gave you fake info. ALWAYS call the cops. Especially in the GTA. there are so many fvckin ***** here who only give a about one person....themselves. And people wonder why there are so many gun problems and murders in this city.... no respect.

P.S. try 411.ca and do a reverse lookup on his address/phone number and see if it matches his name. If it doesnt, then you better run to the police station ASAP.

His info seemed legit. It was all proper. He seemed pretty shady, but I took absolutely every bit of info i could get from him.
Gotta hit the collision reporting center tomora.

when your in a situation like this again... (hope not) you write down the info of the individual. DONT LET HIM WRITE IT DOWN FOR YOU. Take his plates down and ask him for his driver licence and you write it all down.

That's exactly what I did. I made sure I got every bit of info on the guy as himanly possible.
Called him yesterday with the quote on the damage to my car ($3300) and he told me to f*** off and hung up.
So I went to the cops

I believe that if there are no injuries, you do not have to report an accident if damage is under $1,000 (was $750, the gov keeps changing what this fig is so I lost track) JSYK

Well, i've done a police report and now im in talks with my insurance.

thinking of searching out a paralegal too. my back and side has been hurting the last few days. especially when I wake up.

Anyone know of a good paralegal?
