DVD players
 

Well since I got my new TV (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1169252412343), the one thing Im really missing that I want is better quality out of my DVDs. My old RCA is only putting out the 480, so Id like to step it up to 720 at least.. or 1080, but Im not sure if my tv will actually put that out. Im new to learning about all this stuff, but when I bought it I was under the impression that it will only put out 720, but when I was doing somthing on it before I saw it said 1080i, so Im not sure.

Anyway, Im looking to get a dvd player primarily with an HDMI output. Ive only been looking at a couple, but I just have a couple questions. Is upconversion gonna look like ****? What exactly is it, just reimposing a signal at a 'higher quality' ? I dont want to get an HD player, I just want a normal one... These are the couple Im looking at, does anyone have and advice or feedback for me? Thanks

I bought a Sony upconversion DVD player earlier this year. Whether or not I can really see much difference is up for debate. I think it looks better, but it could just be a placebo effect.

Well my old tv with my old dvd player looked amazing... now that I have my new lcd dvds look like hell. Is 720 gonna look much better? I dont really care if its a cheap way up, as long as it looks good.

And yeah i have a ps2, 360, and wii.

What about the XBox HD DVD player upgrade? I was planing on doing that myself but honestly I haven't really researched it a whole lot yet.
I have a hard time believing the whole upconversion really does a great job personally.
What kind of display does your TV put out? I went with mine because I knew it put out 1080p with a resolution of 1980x1080 and that's why I made such a big deal when they didn't give me the xbox with the HDMI connectors.

I thought regular DVDs were just 480. 720 looks great, set your 360 to it and you'll see.

I really dont want to upgrade to an HD DVD player... I can see why people think its so much better looking when you have a nicer tv becuase they make regular dvds look like hell.

I just dont want to get into that whole HD dvd **** right now because I know in 2 years its gonna be like vhs probably and theyll be much cheaper. Im happy with DVDs right now.

I'm holding off on buying one of the HD DVD or Blue ray players for now too. I'll wait to see which one ends up winning, and damn those movies are expensive right now.

Don't expect a winner in that battle. Downloadable content will end up owning all in the end.

Right now HD leads in equipment sales, but Blue Ray leads in content sales. I expect that to change a little next month when Transformers comes out only on HD.

yeah paar i ran into the same battle when i first began to get into this whole hd biz

i have a sony dvd player with my hdtv and i honestly never use it. i just use the PS3 (blu ray) or the 360 with the hd player. they both look amazing. the one thing that gets gay about getting into this crap is it seems like you have to get everything....or nothing at all in order to make it look decent lol. god by the time you get all the monster cables, your blu rayz/hddvd, hdtv, reciever and other junk you have a million dollarz into something that will be outdated in 5 years lol

now that i think about it....ive wasted a lot of money haha

Don't waste money buying cables from big box stores. **** is wayyyyy overpriced. Check out firefold.com. Nice stuff and about 1/16th of the cost of Monster.

I love my upconvert DVD player. I have an LG one from best buy

Ill probably get one later on this week.
