First time driving standard

Today i had my first chance at driving standard in my friends 2000 VW Golf. I got the car started and reversed but then stalled it getting going. Then got the hand of the whole clutch and gas rythum. I also stalled in reverse beacause i pressed the brakes to stop and forgot to put the clutch in twice.

Overall i think i made the same mistakes everyone has when first driving standard.

Good job for sticking with it and actually getting the car rolling. Truthfully, after 15 minutes of practice you should be pretty solid when it comes to driving STD. After the first time I drove STD, it became second nature for me.

You also dont have to double clutch when reversing..

Good job man.

It took me about 5mins to learn stick 'cause I was practising it so much in my head before I finally tried it. I almost blew my engine though, I kept shifting at high rpms (like in car vids) and once I missed the 2nd gear and went past 9000 on a 334xxx km car lol.

bwahaha I've done that, in a 92' G20. I missed 4th while downshifting and accidently put it into 2nd. I thought the tranny was going to fall out, luckily I was quick to mash the clutch before it went beyond redline :la:

lol when i first drove a manual car which was a mini cooper....i got it moving a good 2 feet and stalled.....then tried again stalled 2 more times until i finally got it mostly drove standard BMW's ....one thing about them is the clutch is really high so that takes a short while to get use to, other then that it's pretty easy:smilie_da

I've never owned an automatic vehicle in my life. My stepfather took me out in the country with my first car (a 1991 Civic SE) and told me to drive home.

Fun times :)

firsdt time i drove stick we went and found the biggest hill around, clifton hill in the falls, and i learned to go up a hill, hah

hahaha when i learned how to drive stick, i baught the car first then i learned on my own, its a 96 vw jetta and the reverse is beside first gear, so i was learning how to downshift and instead of throwing'r into first i acidentally put it in reverse going forward and blew the reverse out. so for like 8 months i was driving the car w/o reverse and everytime i parked in a parking lot i parked one spot ahead haha or i had to get the g/f'd to push the car out. I finally got a new tranny for the car but it was pretty funny, it costs to learn tho.

I learned to drive on a 1982 Volvo 245 DL wagon, with a clutch that was half burned out. Stupid thing grabbed, then slipped. 2.4l, CIS RWD, at least it wasn't the slowest thing on the road, just almost.
